2021 Braves Promotions

Yesterday was one of the big days of the year: the Braves released their 2021 promotional schedule. They're giving out several bobbleheads they couldn't give out last season, plus a few more. Baffles me why they need giveaways on nights they're already going to draw big crowds, like against the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, and Dodgers, on July 4, and Fridays and Saturdays. Gonna be throngs of people waiting in line on those days, as well as the Sunday giveaway games.

The vaccine rollout could go twice as fast if everyone didn't stop to get their picture taken getting the shot. I went to my appointment today to get my vaccine, but then my phone battery went dead and I couldn't get my picture taken - so I told them I'd come back tomorrow.

These days I'd just as soon post a joke on Twitter and get no response (since I have so few followers) - or hashtag or reply to another tweet and get responses from strangers - than get all the catty remarks from posting on Facebook. When someone tells a joke you're supposed to appreciate it, not reply with how the joke should be improved. Only joke amateurs do that - as Jerry Seinfeld says, the Las Vegas crowd, the regular folk in town who then go to the show, as opposed to the comedy connoisseurs who to go comedy clubs looking for real comedy. Sorry to be such a comedy snob. No, I'm not.

He Just Wanted to Play Catch. They Got Relief From Troubled Times. A callout on social media for a game of catch in Dallas drew a varied group of strangers who found escape from society's turbulence in the most banal ritual.

Tonight's Mega Millions jackpot is $750 million. In the immortal words of Neil Hollingsworth, no man is worth this much money. For once I wouldn't mind only winning half the prize. Heck, a third or quarter or tenth. That's enough to buy into a MLB, NFL, or NBA team, even with just the present value after taxes. Not sure how all that high dollar finagling works, but I'd shoot for something like this. Still not sure what I'd spend it all on. Probably give even more away.

750,000,000 jackpot

450,000,000 present value

250,000,000 after tax

045,000,000 give

025,000,000 spend

180,000,000 put into trusts

9,000,000 annual income

5,000,000 after tax

1,000,000 give

4,000,000 net annual income

Pet peeve: if you want someone to do something, just the question and give them a chance to answer. Don't go on and on after asking. And for sure don't repeat yourself - or interrupt the other person. Maybe they're willing to do it, and you're not giving them the chance to say yes. Be short and to the point. The more you talk, the harder it is for the other person to understand. You learn so much more by listening than talking. Some people don't understand that. Try it sometime.

I'm far from expert, but the $15 minimum wage snuck into the new stimulus proposal is the exact opposite of helping small businesses. It will run even more out of business.

More and more evidence coming to light that last Wednesday's US Capitol breach was a preplanned effort. Doesn't matter, as the patsy has already been tried and found guilty.
