6:30 am Workout

Sunrise is getting earlier and earlier, so I decided to skip my morning run to play an early round of golf. That way I’ll be back in the gym to lift weights on schedule tomorrow morning.

1. Teed off at 6:25 am. My tee shot felt good, so I didn’t take a mulligan. Hit a hybrid approach shot low but well, long and hard enough for it to roll up onto the green, a mere 13 feet from the hole (I stepped it off - below). Shot of the day. Two putt for a great par.

2. Sliced a 3 wood off the tee to the right fringe (below). What looked like a large fox scampered across the fairway. Might’ve been a skinny dog. I hit a second shot into the woods, that I didn’t look for much. Decent lag putt but missed the putt for par. It all fell apart after that.

3. Hit several tee shots, that got worse and worse. Lost three balls off to the right. Then hit two balls from the fairway that were also bad. Decent chip onto the green from an awkward position, and a two putt. “Double bogey”.

4. Hit 3 wood off the tee that stayed right, that bounced left off the hill. Should’ve chipped but hit several long slow putts from the fringe, through the grass wet with dew. Double bogey.

5. Hit a good 3 wood, then teed up another ball and hit an even better second shot – both to the fringe. Could’ve putted but worked on my chipping. Bogey.

6. Hit driver off tee, two poor shots. Five iron from the rough, my second try better than the first. Was too close to use my trusty hybrid. Scalded my first 6 iron approach, and it rolled off the back of the green. Second try to the right fringe. Three putt. Triple.

7. Popped up my driver. Second try was better, a low slice that rolled up the hill to the base of the third tree. Hit two decent 5 irons out from the rough, the second better than the first, perhaps further down the fairway than any second shot ever. Tried two 8 iron approaches, the second better than the first, to the fringe. Another three putt. “Double bogey”.

8. A decent driver off the tee, low and left and got a good roll down the hill to the middle of the fairway. First 6 iron was okay (I later found it just off the green) but I flubbed a second try. No the best lag putt, as I missed the par attempt. “Bogey”.

9. Popped up a 3 wood off the tee from the white box. Started up the hill and realized how short I’d hit it, so I stopped and hit a hybrid from the senior tee, a little further and left. Two poor shots with my wedge, one left and another right. Two poor chips, then two decent lag putts, but neither got close to the hole. Two more putts to finish. Triple bogey. I had taken my sweet time, and finished at 7:45. Made it to work by 8:40 after stopping at RaceTrac for a drink. Then I worked straight through until 7 pm.

Wednesday: had a needed shipment arrive yesterday, so I stayed late to write up orders to cut them. Left the office at six. Had two friends bring over meals for supper. We ate Noelle's chili with rice, and tossed salad. Also brownies and chocolate chip cookies. Thursday was Nancy's baked chicken with potatoes and green beans.

Other than Frank Robinson, DICK ALLEN  [SABR Bio] won his Rookie of the Year and MVP in different leagues. ROY with PHI in 1964; MVP with CHW in 1972.
