A recent list of the twenty highest paid pitchers in history. Eleven of the top 15 played in New York. Nine of the top ten (and 16 of 20) played in the northeast. Greg Maddux earned the most money of any player who had never played for a New York team. He retired longer ago than all but two pitchers on the list. As the winningest pitcher since Warren Spahn, Maddux has the most wins on this list.
Johan Santana earned the most per win: an astounding $1,161,151.08. Only four starting pitchers on the list earned less than $528,000.00 per win, and three of them were longtime Braves Hall of Famers Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz – all under $435,000.00. The only other HOFers on the list are the two highest paid (Randy Johnson and Marino Rivera) and #8 Pedro Martinez.
