The Midsummer Classic

After SunTrust Field opens how long will it be before Atlanta is rewarded with an All Star Game? It might be a few years. The 2017 and 2018 games have already been awarded to NL East opponents Miami and Washington, and the Mets hosted the 2013 game. The National League is in the middle of a four year run. The Phillies’ Citizens Bank Park opened in 2004 and it has yet to host a game. Philadelphia’s proximity to New York City could swing a vote in their favor. So don’t expect an Atlanta All Star Game until 2020 at the earliest.

It will be interesting to see if the Cobb Galleria is large enough to host the All Star Game Fanfest. Its location across the interstate from SunTrust Park would make it ideal, unless it’s too small.
