Adventures in Babysitting

Ceil and I got to babysit Shivonne and Millie Saturday night. Ceil’s happy place.

Man, I had a busy weekend. Worked past 5:30 Friday evening. C cooked homemade pizza. Very good. We’ve been watching a very good Korean TV show, King of the Land. Have to watch closely to read all the subtitles. This means I can’t follow the Braves on my phone or play on my laptop, so I haven’t gotten lots of my usual stuff “done”. Each episode is well over an hour long. No commercials. Watched one episode Friday night, one Saturday night, and two episodes Sunday night. That was a big chunk of time.

Up early Saturday to play golf. Waited well over 30 minutes for my usual playing partner, but he was a no show. Another twosome was walking up, so I teed off with Robert at 6:45 am. We were on the second tee when Paul was driving up. We play early to beat the heat and avoid the crowds. I started slow, but finished strong.

When I took my car to the shop on Thursday I had grabbed by golf bag and left my pull cart. When I got to the course I remembered I had removed my shoulder strap from the bag, so I had to carry the bag all nine holes, cradled in my arms like a baby. Made for more of a workout than I’d expected.

1. Thought my tee shot went left. Should’ve checked the right rough. Found a Nike Mojo ball and hit it. A rough lie. Finally made a good chip. “Double bogey”.

2. Decent tee shot, but left into the rough. Bad chip good chip. “Double bogey”.

3. Decent tee shot, but left. Okay chip. Long lag putt was short due to the rough and wet green. Double bogey.

4. Good tee shot. Hit on the green and rolled past to the back fringe. Okay lag putt, but missed the par putt. Bogey.

5. Tee shot went left, but clanked off a tree back to the fairway. Good chip onto the green. Just missed the long lag putt. Bogey.

6. Hit hybrid off tee that sliced left. Decent 5 iron. Flubbed an approach. Then I scalded my chip shot. The ball rocketed straight toward the hole and hit the flagstick – bending it backwards. The ball ricocheted to the left fringe. Okay chip. Sank the putt. Double bogey.

7. Hit a better hybrid off the tee. The ball sailed low but got a good roll most of the way up the hill. Hit a 5 iron low, but not far. Then I hit a great 6 iron high and long, that settled onto the green, 12 feet from the hole. Shot of the day. Robert mentioned  that the putt was for par. Not an easy putt. Had some break and the green was wet. But I sank the putt – a super rare par, on perhaps the toughest hole on the course (for me).

8. My drive clipped the trees on the right. Hit a decent wedge to the back fringe. Putted through the rough and left it short. Bogey.

9. Flubbed my 3 wood off the tee, then hit a good 6 iron to the fringe. Decent chip, then sank the bogey putt. A rare 4 on the long uphill par 3. Finished at 7:55. A decent round.

Drove straight to Roswell and picked up my other car from the shop, and got the emissions tested at the car wash. Then I vacuumed and detailed. It out in the morning heat. When I arrived home at 10:30 Ceil came out and hopped in the car, wanting me to take her to a pop up farmers market in Roswell. While we were out we picked up the other car, and I stopped by the bank. After lunch (quesadillas) I cleaned up in Matthew’s old room. Later I took Ceil’s car to the car wash to get the emissions, then vacuumed and detailed in the afternoon heat. Wore me out.

Got home and drove C down to babysit Shivonne and Millie. MC ran some errands, then brought back pizza. Shivvy made a mess. Her hair is starting to fill out. A fun evening.

Sunday school and worship. C photobombed the pastor's video that went out on social media (below). Quesadillas for lunch. Nap. C drove down to Dekalb Farmers Market. I mowed the lawn. Laundry.

Lifted weights this morning before work. Braves / Angels game tonight with coworkers.

DENISON: the West was built on a Judeo-Christian foundation that sees the world in the context of right and wrong, good and evil, and believes that history is progressing toward a final conclusion. By contrast, China’s atheistic worldview rejects the concept of objective good and evil, viewing “right” as whatever advances their interests and “wrong” as whatever impedes them.

Lakers to Retire LeBron's Number

The Lakers say they will retire LeBron’s number when he retires – because they “always retire the player’s number when he enters the hall of fame”. But which number? LeBron has only been with the Lakers for 5 seasons, and 2023-2024 will be season six. James wore 23 his first 3 seasons with the Lakers but changed to 6 to honor Bill Russell. Since the NBA is retiring Russell’s number 6 leaguewide, James is switching back to 23 next season. The Lakers did not retire the numbers for Karl Malone or Gary Payton.

Get this: the Miami Heat retired 23 for Michael Jordan even though he never played for the Heat. The Heat also retired 13 for Dan Marino, and now 6 for Bill Russell. Not sure what they’ll do when LeBron retires.

Players whose number was retired by two teams: Hank Aaron. Greg Maddux. Probably Wayne Gretzky. Also Jackie Robinson and Bill Russell. Not sure about Kareem. Can you think of anyone else?

Bill Russell played 3 years in college and won 2 national championships. Played in one Olympics and won the gold medal. Played 13 seasons with the Celtics and won 11 NBA championships. That’s 14 championships in 17 opportunities. But like Babe Ruth, today’s know-it-all kids throw shade on Russell, saying it wasn’t as tough back then, playing against a bunch of short white boys.

Vendor brought in pizza for lunch Thursday, from Pizanos in downtown Norcross. Brad only likes meat on his pizza (no vegetables), and they didn’t disappoint. Good stuff. Highly recommended.

Speaking of food, the annual JFBC men’s dinner is September 14. They will look at impactful movie scenes and characters to make connections to the Gospel. Click here to register

Loving that K-rom com King of the Land, about the petulant son of a hotel owner and a young lady just hired by the hotel. Rated TV-14 so hopefully it won’t get too bad for C. She watched with interest, though you have to read the subtitles.

Our longtime switchboard operator Margo passed away recently. She worked with us for 29 years. Steve Apollo hired her over when we were all at the gold building, and she eventually moved over to corporate when the offices consolidated. A year or so ago she learned she had cancer, and moved back to Jersey to be near family. Margo was a quiet, dignified lady. When the guys would cut up Margo would look down and quietly chuckle, which I always liked to see. Back in the late 90’s my young kids would occasionally make an appearance in the office, so since then Margo would ask how they were doing. Shane would go over and wreak havoc in the sales office, and ask Margo if anyone needed to be let go. Margo will be missed.

I used to know the entire Bulls roster. Before that I knew just about all the Pistons, Celtics, Lakers, & Hawks. Most of the Sixers. They had a great starting 5 - Dr J, Moses Malone, Bobby Jones, Barkley, Mo Cheeks, Anthony Toney.

North Point’s assistant pastor is delivering a series of messages on friendship. I wanted to listen, and share it with certain people in my life. The first message is called “Image is Everything”.

BAD JOKE: the recycling service from my waste management company is so bad, I’m going to fire them and start throwing all my plastic into the ocean.

DENISON: cultural scholar Walter Russell Mead explained the narrative that fuels many young Americans’ resentment of their country. “America is a nation founded on “the atrocities of slavery, the destruction of indigenous peoples, the economic exploitation of poor people and immigrants, and the failure to offer equal opportunities to women. Our traditional sexual morality was “deeply immoral” in that “it repressed women”. The result was a “new synthesis that found its voice among the so-called woke”. If this is unfamiliar to you, you are probably not a young adult educated in a university where this narrative is conventional wisdom. In this view, evangelical Christians, with our defense of biblical sexuality and popularity among older white Americans, are especially part of the problem – and dangerous to the solution. For people who subscribe to this narrative, perception quickly becomes reality. They do not attend our worship services or live by biblical morality as we understand it. So because our faith is viewed as irrelevant to their lives, it becomes so.

Season 2: the episode when Jerry has to pay extra for illegal cable. Still a deal all these years later.

Ohtani: Babe Ruth 2.0?

Looking forward to seeing Ohtani in person when the Angels come to town next Monday. Many are comparing him to Babe Ruth. In their first 674 games / 455 innings pitched…

.HR…W-L

159 35-18 Babe Ruth

160 35-19 Shohei Ohtani

All the kids on social media are saying Ohtani is clearing better than Babe Ruth because baseball nowadays is harder than it was a hundred years ago – that Ruth played against plumbers and pipefitters (aren’t they tough?), that Ruth only played against whites (how many elite black pitchers have there been in the past 50 years?). Ruth made it to the big leagues as a 19 year old. They say Ruth would struggle against the superior athletes of today. No mention of all the unathletic looking ballplayers who continue to thrive in MLB year after year.

Who is better? Lots of arguments both ways. Back in the day starting pitchers pitched 9 innings. Very few relievers. But pitchers were stronger back then. Conditioning better now – or is it really? The ball is different. Ballparks are smaller. If Ohtani is so great, why does he lag so far behind Ruth in the following categories? Ohtani’s slash lines may be good, but they’re not off the charts. Ruth’s slugging percentage, On Base + Slugging, and OPS+ are the highest in history. Let’s see Ohtani hit 714 home runs.

BA.OBP.SLG..OPS.OPS+

342 474  690 1.164 206 Ruth

272 361  553 0.914 146 Ohtani

Those who fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it.

Tonight Ronald Acuna stole his 50th base of the season, with more than two full months to go.

That 28 hour ESPN book just about wore me out. They take a topic and have 5 or 6 people comment on it. For the most part they all say the same thing, trying to sound important. Men puffing out their chests. Most said how important the event was. Is everything that happened a key moment? Like any other business ESPN is concerned with making money. ESPN. ESPN2. ESPN News. ESPN Classic. ESPN Radio. ESPN the Magazine. Sports Century. Sports Century the book. Not sure if this book is just another look at us vehicle, though it was compiled by an independent source. Could’ve been easily cut by two thirds. Thumbs down.

Next up: Sea of Tranquility, a time travel novel by Emily St. John Mandel. Not sure I’d realized that Catherine Norman had read this one. It's okay, but not a knockout.

BILLY SUNDAY [SABR Bio] his reputation for speed and sobriety were the reasons his time in the majors outlasted his mediocre performance. His manager, Cap Anson was enamored of those two of Sunday’s traits. He was not a terrible player. Thrice he had double-digits in doubles, but his 8 seasons in the majors produced only a 3.0 WAR. In his autobiography he wrote: “I never drank much.  I was never drunk but four times in my life.  I never drank whisky or beer; I never liked either.  I drank wine.”  When he went “to the saloons” with his teammates, “I would take lemonade or sarsaparilla.” In the days before radio, he was the most successful evangelist America had ever known. Players and fans were attracted to him and felt he had been called to preach the word of God.

Swinging For The Fences

Thursday: left work at 5:30. Dropped my car at the shop and put my keys in the after hours slot. Then I realized I'd locked my backpack and laptop in the car. Ugh.

Ate at the Taqueria in Chamblee. Long line like other Taquerias. Chamblee is kinda closer, and a more relaxing drive through Dunwoody on back roads. But for all the trouble getting there and back I guess we should go to Cheshire or Howell Mill. C ordered a taco and "I am want rice and I want beans". She was disappointed to get the usual taco basket with the little cup of half rice and half beans. I ordered a brisket enchilada and rice and beans, so I received the plate with rice and beans there on the plate – not in cups (above). I offered to share, but C said she had plenty.

The Cardinals / Cubs game had just started on the TVs. With two out in the top of the first Chicago's Ian Happ took a long swing, letting the bat go with his top hand. The bat continued around in a long arc and smacked catcher Willson Contreras in the head – knocking him out of the game. It was right when we were leaving, but I was interested because Happ had needlessly swung like the Braves Marcell Ozuna often does.

Ozuna has hit catchers with his bat several times this season. An all or nothing hitter, Marcell is an all or nothing hitter, home run or strikeout. For much of the season it has been nothing for Ozuna. I'm not a fan of Ozuna's swing from the heels approach, which finishes with his weight leaning back. When he swings and misses, which is quite often, Ozuna swings so hard that his top hand comes off the bat, and the weapon arcing far around. If he were to hit the umpire instead of the catcher, he might get thrown out of the game. Give me a Rod Carew or Tony Gwynn any day.

So we left the restaurant and forgot all about the game. Two pitches later Cardinal pitcher Miles Mikolas drilled Happ with a pitch in retaliation – and was thrown out of the game. Sure Happ didn't club Contreras on purpose, but its something that is happening more and more often.

Back home we watched episode 3 of King of the Land. Very good. With no laptop I gave it my full attention. I had planned on playing golf this morning, but had to swing by the shop to retrieve my backpack instead. So I lifted weights at the gym.

DENISON ON UFOs: nothing in the Bible denies or confirms the existence of intelligent life beyond our planet. God knows, since if such life does exist he would have been the one to create it. However, it's simply not a question that God cared to answer. If an alien were to land on your street, would it shake your faith in God? How much? Why?

Gift Idea: Stock in the Braves

Braves executives were at the New York stock Exchange yesterday to celebrate the team's initial stock offering, making the Braves the first publicly-traded MLB team in several decades. I want a share of Braves stock for my birthday. The jokes about "I'm a part owner" are already growing old.

Should be interesting to see what deals Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos will pull off between now and the trade deadline. They're not afraid to bring in new pitchers and try them out, or call them up from the minors, then move them out if they don't perform.

Yesterday I worked until almost 6 pm. C cooked a delicious grilled chicken tenders with caramelized onions, in a Japanese BBQ sauce, Also Spanish rice and tossed salad.

Watched the second episode of King of the Land, a delightful Korean romdrama on Netflix. Hard to play on my laptop because I'm reading the subtitles.

Up early to run three decently fast miles. Taqueria tonight. I had to work a little late, so it was after 7 pm or so before we got there.

Fun fact: sea otters hold hands while sleeping, so they won't drift apart.

Back in the early 1970's Steve Jobs used to use toy whistles from Captain Crunch cereal boxes used to be used to hack into phone lines.

In 1962 the Angels traded winless JOE NUXHALL [SABR Bio] (& his 10.13 ERA over 5.1 innings) to the Reds, where he had in debuted 1944 and played for 10 years. Joe was the last pre-expansion National League pitcher to strike out four batters in one inning. In the top of the 6th inning on 11-Aug-1959, he retired Eddie Mathews, Joe Adcock, Del Crandall, and Johnny Logan on strikes. Crandall reached on a dropped 3rd strike. At 15 years, 316 days on the day of his debut 10-Jun-1944, Nuxhall became the youngest player in recorded major league history, which he remains today. He was 38 years, 64 days at the time of his last game on 02-Oct-1966, then one of the ten oldest playing in the majors.

DENISON: the Federal Reserve raised interest rates yesterday to their highest level in 22 years, and left the door open for further rate increases in the future. Financial downturns typically occur when the Fed raises rates. Many economists have been predicting a recession. However, Americans are more confident about the economy. The International Monetary Fund has upgraded its forecast for the global economy. But the IMF's chief economist warns that there are many challenges ahead, a view some American economists share.

Triple Plays

Braves turned an 8-3-5 triple play. Horrendous baserunning by Boston. Had to correct someone on social media who said Andrelton Simmons had made an unassisted triple play. It was Rafael Furcal in 2003. A few years earlier Chipper started a 5-4-3 triple play.

As a boy I witnessed the Braves pull off a triple play that involved a rundown and several throws, with Rico Carty jogging in from left field to tag out the third opponent.

I've probably mentioned several times that Will pulled off TWO unassisted triple plays. In coach pitch he was fielding the pitcher position. He drifted back to caught a short pop, stepped on second, and tagged the runner before he made it back it first (the very next inning while playing second base, Will caught a line drive, tagged out the runner leading off first for the second out, then threw across the diamond to triple off the runner from third – but the third baseman dropped the throw). Then several years later in pony league Will was playing shortstop. He broke to his left and speared a line drift up the middle, stepped on second to double off the runner, and chased down the other runner before he could scamper back to first.

Going to the July 31 Braves / Angels game with coworkers. Got the nice seats. Then August 23 Collier Metals has gifted me even better "Chairman" seats behind the Mets on deck circle - $350.00 each. Valet parking. Access to the Delta Club buffet. Orasi Software had auctioned off the seats for charity. Can't wait.

BILL DICKEY [SABR Bio] was the first American League catcher to hit .300 with 25 home runs in consecuutive seasons. In 1937 & 1938, Dickey hit 29 & 27 HR and batted .332 & .317. Those were his only seasons with more than 25 HR, but his batting average was north of .300 eleven times. For his 17-year career in the majors, he batted .313 & hit 202 HR. In 1933 the 26-year-old rookie was walked intentionally 9 times, tied with Jimmie Foxx for AL honors. On defense, however, Dickey led the AL in various categories many times. He received a substantial fine and suspension after breaking an opponent's jaw during an on-field brawl in the 04-Juyl-1932(1) game. Tensions rose between the Yankees and Senators. The entire incident is well detailed here.

LeBron James' son had a heart attack.

We see deer in our front and back yard. This weekend I saw two baby deer on our street, up near the busy highway.

Always remember back in the 80's before I got married, when I was house-sitting for some friends who lived on 2649 Sharondale Road. I had driven up late in the evening but hadn't gotten out of the car yet. First I saw a raccoon, then I saw a fox. Pretty cool.

Yesterday: worked past 6 pm. I signed up for the Willy's email club, which gave me a coupon for 50% off a burrito. Stopped by on the way home for supper. Watched a few episodes. C came home from The Table.

Up early to lift weights this morning. At work Brad gave me a coffee drink this morning, with protein but also caffeine. At first I thought it was just a protein supplement, but it is really an energy drink. I've only drank a little, and its like my heart and lungs are wide open. Need to remember to drink an energy drink the next time I have asthma or eat fish. Otherwise I try to stay away from energy drinks.

DENISON: the Wall Street Journal reports parents are now hiring $4,000 sorority consultants to help their daughters dress and impress during rush. The article explains that getting into sororities has become nearly as competitive as acceptance to top universities. Such consultants advise their clients on what to wear, how to act, what to say, and the wisdom of scrubbing potentially off-putting social media posts. Gallup tells us the share of US adults who are "extremely proud" to be American sits at 39%, down 31% from its high of 70% in 2003 (fter 9/11). The share of young adults who are "extremely proud" to be American has especially plummeted to 18% today. Americans 55 and older are nearly 3 times more likely to be extremely proud of their nationality than younger generations.

First Pitch Strikes

First pitch strikes is a stat kept in baseball. I’ll try to look it up for the Braves (I don’t see it anywhere). I certainly agree that getting the first pitch strike, and staying ahead in the count, has proven to be in the pitcher’s advantage.

57% MLB first pitches are strikes

.068 MLB batting average on first pitch strikes

92.8% of all first pitch strikes are outs (or strike one)

66.8% of all strikeouts begin with a first pitch strike

74.3% of all walks begin with a first pitch ball.

You’ll be happy to know: the Braves are the only MLB team who haven’t had a sacrifice bunt all year. You’ve got to like their manager for that. The Braves have the number one offense in baseball. Yesterday they picked up two new pitchers from other teams. Fried and Wright and Chavez and Matzek will be back soon. That’s replacing over half the pitching staff. They might’ve made more moves today. It’s hard to keep up.

A friend won the right to buy Masters tickets in the annual lottery yesterday. I did not. Neither did my adventurous coworker Rachel, who entered the lottery for the first time this year. Rachel is single and sits next to bachelor Ben, a fun sports nut who just happened to also win yesterday’s Masters lottery. We’d like to set up Rachel with Ben (or any other eligible bachelor). Rachel is cheerful, fun, pleasant, likes baseball and dogs and dotes on her young niece and nephew.

So at lunch today Angie told Ben that Rachel had lost out in the Masters lottery, in an effort to get Ben to take Rachel to the Masters. Instead Ben replied “Better luck next time – you’ve got to keep trying!”. Angie should’ve said “that’s what we were doing!”

One year back when I was single and not dating too much I kept track in my scrapbook calendar of how many movies I watched all year – over 365.

Busyness – I am considering taking the year off from small group, since I’ll be working such long hours the rest of the year.

Monday: left work shortly after five and headed to our men’s Bible Study at Dave R’s house. I was first to arrive so we had a nice chat. Tommy led on Psalm 86. Rob from Coke and my other friend Reid filled out the group. Rob mentioned something that happened after I left the week before. I hadn’t left early. When the study ended Tommy left but the rest of us kept chatting. We moved out to the parking lot and talked past 10:15. Kinda late for me.

Up early this morning to run three miles at the gym. Donuts in the office today. Three miles forward, four donuts back.

I intend to remaining active, hopefully 6 or 7 days a week, for the rest of my life. I read a book that said the same thing. C walks Winnie most every day and is okay shape, but doesn’t work out as much as me. When I retire hopefully I will be even more active (and get more sleep). More on this…

Guy from Hot Stove retired and really upped his walking / running – and lost a bunch of weight. I need to ask him if he’s keeping it up.

When coworker Randy retired he took to working out, lifting weights and running road races. Lost a bunch of weight to get down to his high school graduation weight.

My new friend Tommy retired on June 1, but is having trouble carving out time to do the things he wants. Everyone is hitting him up for stuff. He still works a little part time. He’s not too much over his high school weight of 150 pounds.

BABE RUTH [SABR Bio] hit home runs 712, 713, and 714 while playing for the Boston Braves on 25-May-1935 at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh. His final career G was in Philadelphia six days later. The batter whose style Ruth most admired was Joe Jackson. Ruth got advice from Jackson when he began playing every day. Ruth had 123 total stolen bases in his career, but no attempts or steals in his first four seasons. He stole home ten times.

Norm McDonald and the British Open Champ

Five years ago Norm McDonald predicted greatness for newly crowned British Open champion Brian Harman. Back then McDonald's stream of consciousness live tweeting during golf tournaments was a must follow. Harman is from Savannah, went to UGA, and lives on Sea Island.

This week Harman is in high demand. On with Dan Patrick on Tuesday morning.

https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.golfdigest.com/story/british-open-2023-this-old-norm-macdonald-tweet-about-brian-harman-looks-pretty-prescient-now__;!!AE29DT8V!Wz7vwKgNIR7lHzKBR6A0xCgUcn-V9yLQKSr8D0aQKK6li3PaP5ntAmHtgaKHln4pfC2phYM0RWC4RKKIQ_4$

Saturday: early AM golf. Swung by Bellwood Coffee to take stuff to Matthew. It was 8:30 but the place wasn't as packed as I'd seen it on other mornings. Joel wasn't happy - Friday night's storm had knocked out their espresso machine.

Stopped by two thrift stores. Bought a pair of navy pants and a navy New Era Braves quarter zip. Since I've lost weight I still don't have many clothes to wear that fit. Hopefully I will continue to shrink. Passed on a pair of grey Pumas. Took Winnie for a walk. Fixed lunch. Took a nap. Fed the cat. Watched some of the British Open. Washed and folded some clothes.

Went out to get my emissions tested. Took several hours. Drove west to the East Cobb Mr Clean but they weren't testing. Doubled back east to the other side of Roswell. Traffic was jammed on Holcomb Bridge. Should've cut down by the river. Then it took forever. When they finally finished I went over and vacuumed out the car. All that took up the entire afternoon. Over 12000 steps for the day.

Watched the entire Braves game Saturday night. The announcers wondered if Acuna would swing 3-0. Albies battled hard. Not sure how many pitches he fouled off. I thought it might've been fun if that speedy Braves rookie (Wall?) had tried to steal home during the Albies at bat.  Brewers were getting all the breaks. That rookie for the Brewers had a big game.

Couldn't sleep Saturday night. Had two Diet Mtn Dews, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. So I got up early Sunday morning and played golf again. No Robert or Paul or GT so I played alone. A much better sunrise.

1. Drive felt good. Decent approach that found the bunker. Tough lie. Hit several shots out. Two putt. "Bogey".

2. Six iron off tee was left and short. Two poor chips but third try found the green. Two putt for "bogey".

3. Eight iron short and left. Poor chip then a better chip. Great lag putt. "Bogey".

4. Seven iron faded left. Mulligan was a worm burner. Two chips rolled past hole. Two putt. "Bogey".

5. Hit a good 6 iron, but short of the green. Hit three chips: too long, too short, then one slightly better. Two putt. "Bogey".

6. Hit a great drive. Straight and past the big oak, in the fairway. Decent fairway shot that didn't go as far as I'd hoped. Great 9 iron, high and just past the hole to the back fringe. Two putt for "bogey".

7. Decent drive that sliced right, under a tree. For fun I poked out onto the fairway with a 3 iron, but it didn't roll that far. Hit a good 6 iron. Good chip to fringe. Three putt. "Triple".

8. Pretty good drive, though it sliced into the rough. Wedge drifted right. Hit three decent chips. Three decent lag putts. "Bogey".

9. Three wood was pushed right. Mulligan was low and didn't roll far up hill. Pretty good chip to the fringe. Poor putt. Better putt closer. "Bogey".

Finished at 7:47 and drove home. Walked Winnie. Fixed breakfast. Met Lee & Nancy before church to help him with a panhandling project.

Before church I had the British Open on the TV. The leaders had just teed off. Went I left I paused the action, and started it back up when I got home. Sunday School. Lunch quesadillas. British Open.

Took that nap and just puttered around, catching up on my rest. Cleaned up before C got home. C had spent the long weekend in Pawley's Island and North Myrtle Beach. Got a nail in her tire, which made for a long day yesterday. Long drive back. Was after 7 pm when she got home.

Ozzie Albies' big 3-run homer in the 8th put the Braves ahead to stay yesterday, giving Atlanta the series win. After two games in Boston the Braves celebrate Hank Aaron Weekend at Truist Park against the Brewers. Haven't heard if there will be special uniforms or anything.

Went to bed "early" (after 9:30). Lifted weights at the gym this AM. Men's Bible Study tonight, led by Tommy.

A&C went to a wedding Friday night, and saw my friends Reid and Noelle.

Players with three plate appearances in one inning. There are 17 others.
