Game for the ages? Eight overtimes. I like the new overtime rules. So much drama. Tech dominated early, taking a 17-0 halftime lead and doubling Georgia's time of possession.
Some cried targeting on King's late game fumble, but GT had a couple of targeting non calls as well.
Tech is such a good team because of Brent Key. He's a GT alum who says he loves the Tech job. Seems like he's the exact type of coach that Bama would go after.
Haynes King was the best QB on the field last night. A great passer and runner who also has heart, and a will to win. Currently 7th in the nation in TQBR, three spots ahead of Carson Beck. The UGA QB has a great arm, but I'd never see him developing into an elite level NFL QB. Maybe the ball Beck throws just isn't easily catchable, though for the past several years Beck has been the QB that UGA receivers trying out for NFL scouts.
Tough for Tech to miss that field goal. Jackets needed to convert on every opportunity to win. Tech had their top three cornerbacks out of the game with injuries, plus others. Dawgs missed a field goal as well.
I wasn't a fan of Tech running that 4th & one QB keeper out of the shotgun formation, starting the play 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage. Georgia fans flowed out of the stadium.
Then UGA mounted a comeback, outscoring Tech 27-10 in the second half.
GT head coach Brent Key wore short sleeves in the sub-40 degree weather. Nice that Tech broke out the gold britches and helmets for the "rivalry" game. Better that they wore the navy masks instead of the white masks. Not a fan of the all black GT helmet logo.
Nice to have Joe Tessatore and Jesse Palmer calling the game.
During the overtimes before Tech would run a 2 point conversion Kirby would call a timeout, but Key never did. Two different approaches.
After the game the two head coaches shared an extended embrace. They had coached together at Alabama. Based on Key's previous comments about the rivalry, I couldn't stop thinking that Key was saying "I still hate you"…"I still hate you".
After the hug Coach Key stuck around to take in the moment. Perhaps the strong showing will help Tech get into a better bowl game.
I still think that when they're on, the Dawgs are just as good as any other team in the country. Now teams know they can run on UGA. Booger McFarlane was right for a change: the Dawgs' defensive line is so focused on rushing the passer that teams can run on them.
We had worked around house all day. Too cold for AM golf. For some reason our get together with M and A&C didn't work out.
Usually in the GT/GA game I will want the team with the most on the line to win. But it would've been interesting for Tech to upset UGA and then next week the Dawgs win the SEC Championship Game to earn a berth in the playoff. I did wear a yellow shirt.
Ceil cooked burgers fries and slaw Friday night.
#2 Ohio State lost to 6-5 Michigan, who had lost to Texas earlier this season.
#12 Clemson lost to #15 South Carolina. SC HC Beamer said his QB, ranked 49th in the nation in TQBR, should win the Heisman. Tigers should've never let him beat them. Contain him in the backfield and force him to pass and not scramble, and the Tigers would've won. But mighty Miami lost to Syracuse, allowing Clemson to back into the ACC Championship Game,
LSU used to have a consistent look: yellow lids and pants with white jerseys. This year they're mixing and matching. Tonight vs Oklahoma: white helmets, purple jerseys, white pants.
Saturday night: pancakes.
