Change Is Afoot

I suppose the new SPdL pastor will be charged with bringing in more younger people to the church. Change is surely afoot.

Similarly, when the new worship center is built at JFBC there will no longer be two different worship services to choose from. The older people attend the traditional service in the sanctuary, and everyone else goes to the contemporary service in the gym. The JFBC activities center has two basketball courts running east and west. On the north end is a stage, with expandable bleachers set up on the south end. So its a pretty large space. But once the new worship center is built they'll try to appease everyone. Usually that means the older people won't like it as much. We'll see.

I wouldn't mind attending the traditional service, especially to sing traditional hymns. It's great to see and hear Heather Swilley sing, but trying to sing all these contemporary songs that I don't know takes away from me worshipping God. I'm having to pay too much attention to the words and unfamiliar melody. And mostly JFBC makes up their own songs. Ceil loves this worship time.

My friend John Harrell attends the traditional service, so he misses Sunday School. His wife Laurel plays piano in services. They're the ones who know the Condras and Norma McDonald, who moved down to St Simons near Laurel's parents.

On Sunday Ceil started working in a 2 year old class, teaching with Caleb's mother. So she will teach at 830, go to Sunday School at 10, and the 1115 service. She also serves in an outreach role for our Sunday School class.

Meanwhile, construction continues two miles up Johnson Ferry Road, on the new church affiliated with North Point Community Church. Some keep saying that it won't have an effect on JFBC attendance, but I can't see how it won't.

Caleb was out in Phoenix for a bachelor party at the Waste Management Open. To be a groomsman or worse a bridesmaid these days can be an expensive proposition.

Having the few Atlanta people come all the way to SC for our wedding was special. Besides the Whitakers, I remember that Beverly Britt and maybe Nondi Brooks or Ceil's roommate Joy Dempsey came. David Hurt was there. Plus Bill & Kitti Murray, and mark & Donna Fallis. Not sure about Glenn Cowart. Was there anyone else?

Before my wedding for some season I walked out and sat on the front row to listen to Donna Fallis play the organ. I saw the Whitakers back there in the balcony and hated it. I should've had an usher go up and escort them down to sit up there on one of the front rows. It wasn't like we had a bunch of family there. Everyone was in the wedding except my mom, brother in law, and sister in law.
