The Game That Would Never End

GT@Clemson kicked off at 3:30, and didn't end until after 8:30. Besides the two hour lightning delay (combined mercifully with halftime), there were penalties, reviews, timeouts, and of course lots of commercials. Still, it was a whale of a game - (for Tech, not so much for Clemson).

Clemson freshman RB Will Shipley looks good, though I'm not a fan of running backs wearing number one. How did Dabo let a freshman get that number? Probably a defender also has that number. A good thing Clemson doesn't let players change numbers all the time, like some other schools. GT freshman RB Gibbs changed from 21 to 1.

Last year Clemson won 73-7. How do GT fans follow the team year after year? If it were me one or two games a year would be plenty. Then I'd go to concerts and plays and other stuff. Trips. But of course I've been to how many Braves games this year?

GT does seem to play Clemson tougher in Death Valley.

Quite evident that Clemson is not as elite this year. Still they should cruise to the ACC title. QB DJ had a couple of good games last year, but hasn't showed much so far this year. He's more hesitant than gunslingers JT or Stetson.

The GT defense showed up, making Clemson take all three downs to gain first downs. Tech of course wore their third costume in as many games, this time all white with gold numbers and masks. Why didn't they wear this for the white out?

Tech has too many stickers on the back of their helmets. Most teams have too many, including Clemson and UGA.

When Geoff Collins arrived at the stadium (in a skinny suit without socks) he gave out fist bumps to fans, but didn't look the fans in the eye.

7-0 Clemson with 32 seconds left in the half - then a lightning delay. That's a win for Tech. Tiger QB DJ needs all the work he can get, but it might be time to put in the backup for a series or three. That's what Kirby would do, right or wrong. Even Booger McFarland was badmouthing DJ.

Even the GT offense moved the ball and picked up a few first downs. QB Yates knows how to avoid sacks, which is huge. Too bad GT doesn't have a decent field goal kicker. Sure would help in a game like this.

Two close calls late in the first half go against Tech, before the teams were called off the field. Two hours later the Jackets made it 7-3, the 14-3, then 14-6.

Tech grabbed the onsides kick and drove again, only to be stuffed on fourth and goal. All Clemson had to do was run out the clock. But QB DJ couldn't take a snap from center, and freshman Shipley fumbled back into the end zone for a safety. 14-8, and Tech had another chance.

By the time the game finally ended, UGA was kicking a field goal to end the half. 25-6, with the defense scoring a safety.

With Bama barely able to top Florida, look for UGA to garner several first place votes in next week's polls. Kirby wants it. Saban doesn't care. Georgia kept on the gas, with JT passing and the defense forcing turnovers. Another big win, without standout starters Pickens, Washington, and Blaylock.

Arch and Cooper were at the game, both rocking UGA caps.
One TD pass was caught right in front of the Mannings.
Purdue trailed Notre Dame 13-17 at the half. Tulsa kept it close as well against Ohio State. Will anyone be able to challenge UGA and Bama?

Gators stayed relatively close to Bama in the first half (21-9) then brought it to 21-16 in the third, and nearly tied the game with a two point conversion. Is Florida that formatible? Bad news for UGA. Saban is 31-0 against the SEC East over the past ten years.

Josh Donaldson made it rain for the 24th time Saturday. Dodger centerfielder Cody Bellinger broke a rib. But if the Braves can't hold off the Phillies, the subject is moot.

3-0 Wake Forest beats 0-3 FSU. Not sure if any Seminoles proposed to their girlfriends after the game.

Michigan blew out Northern Illinois, who beat Tech. The Jackets next opponent, UNC, put up 59 on Virginia. Could get ugly next week in the Benz.

Miami lost to Michigan State. At least the Canes are playing tough non-conference opponents.

Oklahoma edged Nebraska.

Jenny Ewing's killer passed away, shortly before his scheduled execution date.
