The Big Door Prize

Just started a new audiobook: “The Big Door Prize” by M.O.Walsh. A mysterious new vending machine appears in a small town grocery store. For two dollars and a DNA sample, it tells you what potential you have. The machine changes the lives of various townspeople.

Books for the beach. Considering we’ll only be on the beach at most three days, I’ll be lucky to finish one book.

1. Joan of Arc, by Regine Pernoud. Reid just gave it to me.

2. Murder at Wrigley Field, by Troy Soos. Been carrying it around in my backpack for almost a year. From Johnny Tallant's basement baseball museum.

3. A Woman Rice Planter, by Elizabeth W Alston Pringle. Set in coastal South Carolina, about descendants of Ceil's family. Aunt Corrine gave me this one. Gonna be hard to swallow.

Austin Riley is something. With that walk-off double Sunday, he broke Hank Aaron’s record for mist extra base hits in July. If I buy another jersey (which I don’t need) it will be a Gwinnett Stripers RILEY 27.

Hate it when people ask “How’s it going?” then don’t wait around for an answer. Never happened to me until I came up to Tech. I’d pass people on the sidewalk while walking to class and they’d say “How’s it going?” I’d stop to answer how I was doing – but they’d keep walking.

My Saturday morning playing partner Robert was laid off after 35 years with his company. He was at Tech when I was there. He’s looking for another job, but playing more golf as well. I’ve finally started outdriving him on some holes, but he hits an iron and I hit driver or 3 wood. In a related note, Wednesday is my 35th anniversary at my company. Luckily they’re planning a celebration for next week, so I must be safe for a few more days.

Players who appeared in centerfield within twenty games of 2,000, or more. With Duval and Albies out and Cano ineffective, the Braves signed Riley to a monster ten year deal, and traded to get Ehire Adrianza back.
