Shivonne's First Birthday

Shivonne’s birthday party. Made it down to W&MC’s by 2 pm, but I had to run to Kroger for extras.

More than 30 people dropped by, mostly friends from W&MC’s church.

Joel and Charles Norman brought their wives, as well as Shivonne’s buddy, little Peter Norman (Charles’ son). He looks just like a Norman kid.

Golf was the theme of the party. W&MC had set up a course with five events: (1) putt putt, (2) guess the number of tees in the jar, (3) tee toss (a tough game), (4) chipping a ball into a net, and (5) closest to the pin. They had scorecards printed up, a box of the little golf pencils, and a trophy for the winner.

Also yummy sandwiches from Chicken Salad Chick set up like the Masters: egg salad, pimento cheese, and turkey club, with Arnold Palmers to drink.

Matthew decorated a little cake for Shivonne, which she got to eat by herself.

Later M had to go to work. After the party W&MC, and Shivonne and Ceil and I went down to eat at Matthew’s Monday Night Garage. Anna & Caleb had gone there as well. MNG was closing down, so we went next door to Boxcar. M joined us. We didn’t get much. MC got fried chicken sliders, Will French fries, Ceil chili, Shiv some mashed potatoes. Instead of fries I ordered oreo cheesecake.

Didn’t get home until 9:45 pm. I was exhausted and went to bed. I went to the gym this morning.

Denison on Halloween.

HOLLIS “Sloppy” THURSTON  [DD.com Bio] threw the first documented immaculate inning in extra innings, the 12th inning on 22-Aug-1923. In his second year in the majors, he led the league in complete games with a total that would have led the majors in any season in the last four decades. He had 28 CG in 1924. Rick Langford in 1980 was the last pitcher with 28 CG for Billy Martin’s Athletics. After about a month into the 1923 season with the Browns and after only two appearances, Thurston was suspended by manager Lee Fohl for refusing to pitch batting practice.  He was immediately waived and then claimed by CHW in May. Thurston was always neatly outfitted, so his nickname is completely ironic.
