Adventures in Babysitting

Ceil and I got to babysit Shivonne and Millie Saturday night. Ceil’s happy place.

Man, I had a busy weekend. Worked past 5:30 Friday evening. C cooked homemade pizza. Very good. We’ve been watching a very good Korean TV show, King of the Land. Have to watch closely to read all the subtitles. This means I can’t follow the Braves on my phone or play on my laptop, so I haven’t gotten lots of my usual stuff “done”. Each episode is well over an hour long. No commercials. Watched one episode Friday night, one Saturday night, and two episodes Sunday night. That was a big chunk of time.

Up early Saturday to play golf. Waited well over 30 minutes for my usual playing partner, but he was a no show. Another twosome was walking up, so I teed off with Robert at 6:45 am. We were on the second tee when Paul was driving up. We play early to beat the heat and avoid the crowds. I started slow, but finished strong.

When I took my car to the shop on Thursday I had grabbed by golf bag and left my pull cart. When I got to the course I remembered I had removed my shoulder strap from the bag, so I had to carry the bag all nine holes, cradled in my arms like a baby. Made for more of a workout than I’d expected.

1. Thought my tee shot went left. Should’ve checked the right rough. Found a Nike Mojo ball and hit it. A rough lie. Finally made a good chip. “Double bogey”.

2. Decent tee shot, but left into the rough. Bad chip good chip. “Double bogey”.

3. Decent tee shot, but left. Okay chip. Long lag putt was short due to the rough and wet green. Double bogey.

4. Good tee shot. Hit on the green and rolled past to the back fringe. Okay lag putt, but missed the par putt. Bogey.

5. Tee shot went left, but clanked off a tree back to the fairway. Good chip onto the green. Just missed the long lag putt. Bogey.

6. Hit hybrid off tee that sliced left. Decent 5 iron. Flubbed an approach. Then I scalded my chip shot. The ball rocketed straight toward the hole and hit the flagstick – bending it backwards. The ball ricocheted to the left fringe. Okay chip. Sank the putt. Double bogey.

7. Hit a better hybrid off the tee. The ball sailed low but got a good roll most of the way up the hill. Hit a 5 iron low, but not far. Then I hit a great 6 iron high and long, that settled onto the green, 12 feet from the hole. Shot of the day. Robert mentioned  that the putt was for par. Not an easy putt. Had some break and the green was wet. But I sank the putt – a super rare par, on perhaps the toughest hole on the course (for me).

8. My drive clipped the trees on the right. Hit a decent wedge to the back fringe. Putted through the rough and left it short. Bogey.

9. Flubbed my 3 wood off the tee, then hit a good 6 iron to the fringe. Decent chip, then sank the bogey putt. A rare 4 on the long uphill par 3. Finished at 7:55. A decent round.

Drove straight to Roswell and picked up my other car from the shop, and got the emissions tested at the car wash. Then I vacuumed and detailed. It out in the morning heat. When I arrived home at 10:30 Ceil came out and hopped in the car, wanting me to take her to a pop up farmers market in Roswell. While we were out we picked up the other car, and I stopped by the bank. After lunch (quesadillas) I cleaned up in Matthew’s old room. Later I took Ceil’s car to the car wash to get the emissions, then vacuumed and detailed in the afternoon heat. Wore me out.

Got home and drove C down to babysit Shivonne and Millie. MC ran some errands, then brought back pizza. Shivvy made a mess. Her hair is starting to fill out. A fun evening.

Sunday school and worship. C photobombed the pastor's video that went out on social media (below). Quesadillas for lunch. Nap. C drove down to Dekalb Farmers Market. I mowed the lawn. Laundry.

Lifted weights this morning before work. Braves / Angels game tonight with coworkers.

DENISON: the West was built on a Judeo-Christian foundation that sees the world in the context of right and wrong, good and evil, and believes that history is progressing toward a final conclusion. By contrast, China’s atheistic worldview rejects the concept of objective good and evil, viewing “right” as whatever advances their interests and “wrong” as whatever impedes them.
