Pat Sajak is retiring from Wheel of Fortune after this next season, whatever that is. No word on Vanna White. Vanna grew up in Myrtle Beach and attended Bauder Fashion College in Atlanta. When I was a freshman at GT several Bauder girls were attending Wieuca Road. Sajak is being replaced by Ryan Seacrest, who grew up in Dunwoody. It was Seacrest who took young Heather Swilley to their junior high prom. Heather kept the red dress, and her daughter wore it to her prom. Heather and husband Lee did Anna & Caleb’s pre-marriage counseling. How’s that for six degrees of Kevin Bacon?
I’ve said it before – my pet peeve if people sitting in their cars in parking lots running the engine just to run the air conditioner. I guess these people aren’t the ones worried about global warming, climate change, burning fossil fuels, etc. I know its hot and people gotta be careful they don’t overheat. But to sit out in the heat during lunch just to get away from people in the office seems like a bit much. I can sit at my desk surrounded by people and still be in my own little world. More on this topic later on in the week.

Checked the word count on this post: 666 (now 723). Reminds me of a junk email I recently received, selling a line of jewelry with “666” on it. The way Satan is being literally and publicly worshipped (and God mocked) is astounding to me. I am offended.
Thursday: up early to play golf. Teed off at 6:15 am.
1. Hit a great drive, long and straight. Hit a second that felt good, but I never found it. Hit one chip long, and a second to the fringe. Chipped and sank a ten foot putt for “par”.
2. Decided to hit an 8 iron even though the tee box was further back than usual. Lost the first shot in the high left rough. Mulligan was better but short of the green. Okay chip. Good lag putt. “Bogey”.
3. Lost one ball right, then pulled one left. Hit one decent shot that wasn’t as far left. Not sure I found that ball but found another nearby. Cruddy chip then a better chip. Two putt. “Double”.
4. Realized a fellow was behind me, who said he wasn’t in a hurry – but it still made me press. Hit a low 7 iron off the tee, then a better mulligan even closer. Shouldn’t have putted from the rough. “Bogey”.
5. Popped a hybrid up toward the road, then drew the mulligan toward the green. Looked great, but it carried 20 yards past the green. Too much club. Moved on to the next hole.
6. Popped up the hybrid short. Scalded a 5 iron from under the tree. I think it hit off the big oak, then clanged off the 150 yard pole. Never found it. Flubbed two 6 irons, then hit a nice 9 iron to the fringe. Good lag putt. Triple.
7. Decent drive that sliced up the hill under a tree. Scalded a nice 5 iron, but it didn’t get a good roll in the wet grass. But then a good 6 iron to the fringe. Poor lag putt. “Double”.
8. Decent drive. Poor wedge shot pulled left. Better mulligan to the back fringe. Two okay chips. Two putt. “Double”.
9. Hit a couple of poor 6 irons. Three actually. A cruddy chip. Then a great uphill putt from off the green, an inch from the hole. Tapped in at 7:24. Made it to the office by 8:15.
YOGI BERRA [SABR Bio] holds the AL record for career doubles in World Series play. Berra amassed ten doubles during his record 75 World Series games in 14 Series, from 1947-1963. Frankie Frisch’s ten are the NL record, done in 50 WS games over eight series: 1921-1934. Berra appeared as himself on SNL on 13-Oct-1984, Season 10, episode 2. Berra hit a home run on four straight Opening Days, in 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958. Since then two more players also did this—Todd Hundley and Gary Carter (all are catchers).
