Gentlemen,

Congratulations to both you guys on this new hire. As a Tech grad, I count this very much a step in the right direction, and am quite excited about the next football season.

I consider this perfect timing for y’all to put your stamp on another important aspect of the program: the Uniforms. Tech has been wearing the same basic uniform for almost forty years. What began as a simple, classic look was tweaked over the years with the latest football fashions.

Dan, when you came on board one comment you made hit home to me: tradition is not very important to today’s recruit. Much more important is a slick uniform. Tech has a wonderful slate to work with, and I’d like to offer a few suggestions to set the Jackets apart from the crowd:

1. The Mustard Throwback Uniforms worn in 2006 would be a great start.
The unique jersey color would set Tech apart in the sea of gold & black teams.

2. That White Helmet with the bold stripes is a rare look for a gold team,
and the Grey Facemask keeps the look uncluttered and focused on the rest of the helmet.

3. One improvement would be to use the shoulder-loop “UCLA” stripes favored by Tech teams in the 60’s. While the current two sleeve stripes have been a great tradition, the look is lost on today’s tight-cut jersey sleeves.

4. The simple bold pants stripes worn with the mustard jerseys look much better than the current late-70’s trendy stripes, and better than no stripes or the weird stripes favored by many Nike teams…that make player’s legs look fat (like Clemson!).

5. The Jersey Collar should the same color as the jersey, since any contrasting color
(or stripes) looks awful stretched out by shoulder pads and neck guards.

6. Please leave off as many Patches possible; last year I counted five. This isn’t NASCAR! The jersey is easily identifiable as Tech’s, so both GT and YELLOWJACKETS are unneeded. The ACC logo is already on the helmet…
...does the conference require it on the jersey as well?

I could go on, but you get the idea. Keep the changes in house,
as uniform manufacturers tend to go overboard to make their own statement.
It is Georgia Tech’s uniform, so Tech should have the final word. I’ll be happy to help.
