Georgia / Florida: more bad coaching on the Georgia side than good coaching on the Florida side. The Gators were going to run the ball - handoffs up the middle that were bounced outside for big gains. UGA never stopped it. Previously teams kept trying to pass and run up the middle. When Georgia got behind one touchdown and then two touchdowns, they should've kept running the ball. Chubb's fumbles didn't help, and it wasn't like the Hutson Mason passing game was ineffective, but Georgia should've kept pounding the ball on the ground. After Georgia fell behind Chubb only got five carries. Run him 30-35 times and Georgia wins the game.
Had Georgia scored on that first and goal, and had they not allowed that long touchdown run late in the game, Georgia would've won the game. So two plays made the difference. Now it's questionable whether they can beat Kentucky. And Auburn looked strong and solid beating Ole Miss. I've tuned out the fans, who expect championships even though the defensive coordinator and starting quarterback are in their first year, and three of the top five tailbacks are out. During his time at UGA Mark Richt is the 5th winningest coach in college football, yet fans want him fired because he's lost two games - that were decided by a total of three plays. Likewise last week Mike Bobo had been praised for his play-calling, but now fans have his head on the chopping block.
The color on color matchup did look good. In the above photo Florida holder Michael McNeely scores a touchdown on a fake field goal. The day after the game McNeely was back at his job at Publix. He has been accepted into medical school.
Georgia Tech / Virginia: the Tech defense is looking better - three interceptions. Of course, Ted Roof had nowhere to go but up after that miserable performance in Chapel Hill. Tech's offense continues to click. Hopefully they won't look past NC State, who plays tough at home.
Tennessee / South Carolina: more indications that Spurrier will retire. He walked out of the postgame press conference. If Clemson beats them in the season finale, that could be the last straw. At least they'll go to a bowl game. The Vols win helped Georgia. I had gone to bed thinking that SC had won. I guess SC shouldn't have worn the all black uniforms.
Auburn / Ole Miss: both teams looked good, until Ole Miss faded at the end. That late fumble was on Bo Wallace, though the defense held to give the Rebels one last chance.
Mississippi State / Arkansas: the Razorbacks are better than their record. No dishonor for MSU to not win bigger.
Pittsburgh is pathetic. Should've beaten Duke. A Pitt win would've really helped out Tech. UNC played poorly as well. Couldn't beat Miami. That , which is good for Georgia Tech. Why couldn't UNC have played so bad when GT played them? No one in the ACC can stay on the field with FSU. The Noles aren't as good as last year, and will definitely be beatable come bowl season.
Maryland is no good, and Penn State isn't much better. A lot of mediocrity out there. No wonder ESPN concentrates on the SEC so much.
Texas A&M's helmets looked great.
