More on The Trade: interested to see how Alex Wood performs on the big stage without pitching coach Roger McDowell around. Wood has performed well and would have a better record with just slightly better run support. Hate to see him go. Pheenom Peraza was made expendable by Jase Peterson, and minor leaguers Mallex Smith and the kid in Rome. Many are concerned by all the time Olivera has missed due to injury, but he comes with prodigious stats considering the fewer games Cubans play. GM Hart has a proven track record but if Olivera flops this trade could be likened to the Texiera for Salty trade and Len Barker for Brett Butler & Brooks Jacoby. But besides Wood all the others we gave up were expendable: free agent Jim Johnson, worn-out Luis Avilan, sore-armed/big contract Bronson Arroyo, and question mark Peraza. Plus we got a pitcher and a high draft pick.
The Mets will be Cespedes’ third team in just a few years. Puig is no angel. Now journeyman Yunel Escobar. My worry, however racist, is that Cuban players are quick to wear out their welcome. Is Eddie Perez the exception?
The bobbleheads I trade for – I won’t make much of an effort to trade for a non-Brave unless it’s one of my favorites, or I like them for some reason.
Left the office after six Thursday night and received a text from M while I was walking across the parking lot, needing me to pick him up in Cumming. Stopped by two thrift stores and RaceTrac on the way. On the way home I stopped for gas – I got 444.4 miles on one tank of gas. Didn’t get home until after 8 pm. Ceil fixed spaghetti, salad, and French bread for dinner. As usual I skipped the bread and pasta and only had the sauce and salad. MC and W ate with us. I watched some Braves and then we watched The Middle marathon.
The Pie Place was still open in March. Not sure what happened. Yesterday was the last day of free soda refills at RaceTrac. I’d been getting the Vitamin Water Lemonade at least once a day since late April.
