Greensboro Trip

Think it’s going to snow tomorrow? It will be cold for sure.

Have a good weekend? I was on the go. Worked extra late on Thursday night, after 7 pm. Cold up had to stop for gas on the way home. Ceil cooked grilled chicken and sliced vegetables.

Woke early on Friday. Kept the garage doors closed while I packed the car in the cold. Left out around 7:30 and the traffic wasn’t too bad, except on 400 south. Stopped for gas in Augusta. Also Chickfila minis. Made it to Jefferson, then drove Ceil’s mom the Monroe NC to a doctor’s appointment. Didn’t feel like staying back at the house.

After the appointment we had a late lunch / early supper at the Hilltop Restaurant, where we’d eaten Easter dinner before. I had the buffet: BBQ, broccoli casserole, potato salad, cole slaw, hush puppies, popcorn shrimp, salmon patty, collard greens, banana pudding, peach cobbler. Ceil and her mom split shrimp and grits, but neither was crazy about it.

Later Uncle Lennie and Aunt Corrine came to visit, bringing their two dogs. We had left Barney in Atlanta. Turned on Last Man Standing but someone came in and changed the channel to Live PD. A young blonde police woman was holding up a cute puppy. Went to bed around 11 pm and slept late the next morning.

Saturday morning I was sent to the grocery store. Also got gas and brought home thin crust Pizza Hut for lunch. Packed the car and headed out north two hours to Greensboro NC. Checked into he hotel and drove around a little. Passed the Greensboro Coliseum, where UNC Greensboro was hosting the Mercer Bears. Ceil got a coffee and later met two friends from high school for an early dinner. I bought a pair of sunglasses and returned to the hotel.

Arrived early for the surprise party for Ceil’s other high school friend. A good crowd, perhaps thirty. Didn’t know many but made do. I tried the hors d’oeurves: meatball sliders, chicken ka bob, egg rolls, hot spinach dip, and cheese and crackers. An old DJ played wonderful oldies music. A few couples slow danced and several ladies shagged, then the DJ had everyone dance the Hokey Pokey. Also the Chicken Dance.

One side of the large room was lined with windows overlooking a swimming pool and then a streetlight at an intersection. There were also large windows just outside the room in the lobby. Around ten the street filled with several fire trucks – an apartment across the street had caught fire. The fore trucks had all left by the time we left, around 11:15 pm.

Slept late Sunday morning, then are breakfast at the hotel with Ceil’s two friends. Eggs, English muffin, yogurt, granola, oatmeal with almonds. Left Greensboro at ten. Stopped in Gaffney for gas and coffee. Made it home around three. Small group at six. Bed at 9:30.

On the trip we listened to a book written by President Bush’s twin daughters, who were in high school when Bush was governor of Texas and in college during his presidency. Learned that Putin’s mother had been thought dead and loaded on a cart being wheeled through town. As the cart was wheeling away her husband saw her take a breath. He ran after the cart and insisted she get her back. A few years later she had a son, who would become the leader of Russia.
