R.I.P. Jim Brown

R.I.P. Jim Brown, perhaps the greatest football player who ever lived. The greatest lacrosse player in history as well. Led the NFL in rushing in 8 of his 9 seasons – and research is finding irregularities in statistics suggesting he may have led the league in rushing in all nine of his seasons. Later Brown starred in movies and worked alongside other athletes and Martin Luther King for civil rights. Born on St. Simons Island.

How Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, and Herschel Walker compared to Brown in their first 9 seasons. For Herschel I’ve listed both his first nine pro seasons as well as his first nine NFL seasons.

My former high school teammate David Cape invited me to be an instructor at former UGA LB Takeo Spikes Football Camp, but I have a family commitment that weekend. Maybe next year.

Worked past 5:30 on Friday. BBQ chicken for supper.

Saturday AM golf. The forecast showed no chance of rain, but had to use my wipers on the drive downtown. Misty, just shy of a light drizzle. Arrived at 6:17 but didn’t tee off until almost 7 am. Used the tough conditions as an excuse, but did hit a few good shots, including a long putt with a huge break on the tough 4th hole’s temporary green. Lately when I bend over to tee up the golf ball I’ve started to feel dizzy. Guess I need to get C to check my ears for wax. The past 2 years my doctor has cleaning the wax in my ears in late July. I have found myself a little less sure of my footing, on steps and such. Trying to be more careful.

On the way home I found a sweet $90.00 Vineyard Vines Braves necktie at the Northside Drive Goodwill, for three bucks. Got home and went on a 2-1/2 mile walk with C and Winnie. So by 11 am I’d taken 11,000 steps. Fixed quesadillas for lunch, did some laundry, watched the PGA and the Ashton Kutcher / Reese Witherspoon movie “Your Place or Mine”. Drove C on some errands. Leftovers for supper. Watched the new episode of Doctor Cha. Late Saturday somehow I pulled a muscle in my back.

Sunday School and worship. Stopped by Whole Foods on the way home. Leftovers for lunch. Watched the PGA on CBS. Promo for the new Sylvester Stallone family show. Jim Nantz said Stallone’s wife’s sister’s husband is the surgeon who operated on Brooks Koepka’s knee.

See that guy Block make the hole in one yesterday? With the crowd behind him, I think Rory was able to enjoy his own round more and play with less pressure on him. Block was what, 47 years old, wearing Air Jordans and such. Might as well cash in as much as he could, but kinda old to be wearing Jordans. Listen to me talk.

Had just a little bit of cleaning out the garage to put a second car inside. Washed two cars and blew the driveway and walk. Hallmark movie and PB&J.

Was sore from the weekend but still went to the gym this morning for a decent run.

Anna and Caleb spent the weekend on different beach trips. Anna was on the Isle of Palms at Ted’s family’s beach house for cousin Jordan’s bachelorette weekend, along with, among others, cousins Victoria and Katherine, cousin Ben’s wife Lisie, and mother of the bride Kelly.
