Hawkeyes Lose Natty

Iowa’s magical run came to an end against SC. Good game. Hawkeyes made an 8-0 run late to pull within six, then couldn’t make a shot the rest of the way. Instead of continuing to foul in a hopeless cause, Iowa gracefully accepted defeat, pulling the starters and letting the subs play. Kate Martin posed with Jason Sudeikis.

Friday vs UConn: from six minutes left in second quarter and Iowa BEHIND by TWELVE to about 6 minutes left in the game and Iowa UP by NINE. That’s what lost the game for UConn.

UConn coach Geno knows it wasn’t the call that lost the game -but thousands of sports fans and supposed “experts” can’t get past that call – which was correct. But man all the ESPN announcers and commentators after the game sure were on UConn’s side. They all thought it was a bad call.

The announcers didn’t say anything about whether Caitlin missed that second foul shot on purpose, but I told Ceil that I thought she did. Seemed like she shot it harder, with less arc, and to the left. No one asked her after the game.

Sometimes during a game baseball or football- I will take notes about the game on my phone. But these tourney games were too fast paced. I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen or I would’ve missed something.

UConn was a 4 pt favorite and SC was a 10 pt favorite.

Much to her dismay, Caitlin Clark was not recruited by women’s basketball powerhouse Connecticut.

Earlier this season the Hawkeyes set the record for the highest attendance at a women’s basketball game, when they played outdoors in the football stadium.

PEOPLE Magazine profiled Gabbie Marshall’s family. The senior guard gained at least one famous fan in the past few weeks.

Might’ve been fun to watch the Monday afternoon Cleveland Indians game, being played during the total eclipse. In Georgia, the peak in Georgia should come just after 3 pm when 75% of the sun will be covered. The eclipse lasts from 150 to 420 Monday afternoon. I was be en route to the Braves game. I think I heard where some scientists are saying that it’s okay to stare directly at the sun, as long as you have the vaccine.

For the Monday practice round, Augusta National should sell special Masters eclipse glasses. The last time there was an eclipse during the Masters was the Sunday that Jimmy Demerit won his first green jacket.

Thursday: watched the NIT final. Some of it. Also some of the first round of the golf tourney. Also Young Sheldon and Elsbeth.

Thursday: took C to Pappadeaux for the first time. She had the grilled salmon. I had the small plate of chicken tenders, which was plenty for me. The French fries were not warm at all. Sad. Not sure we’ll go back.

CNN Center is being rebranded as “The Center”. Developers claim it will be a “world class” dining and entertainment destination. Yeah, I’ve heard that one before.

As US Amateur champion, Bryson DeChambeau was able to practice on the Augusta National course a little more that the club would have liked.

Looks like ex-Falcon RB/WR Cordarrelle Patterson wants to wear 84 in Pittsburgh, much to Antonio Brown’s displeasure.

SWEDE RISBERG [SABR Bio] helped the White Sox take down the New York Giants in the 1917 WS - his only championship ring and the team’s only one for the next 88 years. His WAR was only -0.3 that year. Swede resented his new Hall of Famer to-be teammate Eddie Collins’ salary so much that he refused to speak with him. Chick Gandil joined Risberg in the oral boycott. Collins made $15,000 to their $2500 & $4000. In his first World Series Risberg hit .500 in 1917 but only .080 in 1919 with only 1 hit in 28 PA.
