Why I Like Commuting

My friend Rob works from home, but misses commuting. I know what he means. Why I like commuting (in no particular order)…

1. Like life, it’s about the journey, not getting to the destination as fast as humanly possible. It’s not a competition.

2. Check out which cars I like.

3. Listen to audiobooks, Braves games, or Dimino & Cellini.

4. Can run any needed errands, like Kroger, Dollar Tree, or thrift stores.

5. Can stop for snacks at Wendys, McDonalds, or Taco Bell.

6. Can gas up the car at RaceTrac.

7. Decompress from the work day. My drive along the river is quite scenic.

8. Make needed work calls.

9. Phone friends and family.

10. Try to get the highest MPG possible.

11. Try to be as safe and courteous as possible.

12. Be on the lookout for delays, and making adjustments accordingly.

Some think the Hawks are better with Trae Young out. I don’t know. This week the Celtics attempted 52 three-pointers, but had zero free throw attempts. Are they not working the ball inside at all?

I thought that after my hard day Tuesday that I wouldn’t be able to sleep, so I stayed up later than usual. Had to make it a point to think of other things besides work. So I had a decent night’s sleep. Not sure I heard Ceil’s alarm go off at 6 am. I’d been getting up between 615 & 630. But I was sleeping soundly. C woke me up at 709. Since I had worked until 630 last night, I didn’t feel bad when I was ten minutes late to work this morning – since so many others rarely clock in by 8 am.

WHITEY FORD [SABR Bio] broke Babe Ruth’s record for the longest consecutive scoreless innings streak in the World Series. Ruth’s record was 29-2/3 scoreless innings in 1915 & 1918 was exceeded by Ford in 1958 vs. Milwaukee; 1960 vs. Pittsburg, and 1961 vs. the Reds - a total of 33-2/3 straight WS innings with surrendering a run. As a rookie, Ford earned a win for each of his first nine career decisions. The only loss in the 1950 season was his last decision that year. Ford’s only Cy Young Award came in 1961 when he was the 1961 WS MVP.

Habits of appealing people: (1) be appealing, (2) start with the end in mind, (3) focus on the important things, (4) think win-win, (5) seek first to understand, and only then to be understood, (6) you can create more value as a group than by yourself, and (7) continue to grow. Sadly, some vultures are only in it for themselves, using coworkers for their own ends and rarely helping others with their requests.
