Everyone is talking about changing the Braves name but few are offering ideas. One guy thinks it should be the Hammers. During rallies fans could swing foam hammers as if they were driving a nail. Tuesday night I wrote an essay with suggestions. My picks (all with ties to the Braves or Atlanta): (6) The Atlanta Nine (5) the Atlanta Phoenix (4) Firecrackers (3) Bees (2) Rustlers (1) Doves – perfect for the turbulent times we live in. They could keep the feather uniforms from the 1970’s.
Lots of info on the topic in the AJC today, including interviews with top Braves brass. No plans to change the name, since a brave is a term of honor, like a warrior. Schiller visited the Cherokee tribe in North Carolina. Their school’s team is named...the Braves. That says something right there.
Last night my essay outlined the history of the tomahawk chop, and how if the Braves disassociate themselves from the chop, they also need to take the tomahawk off their jerseys (not so, says McGuirk). They know some fans will continue to chop. Same with Kansas City Chiefs fans. If the chop is outlawed, only outlaws will chop. There's a name.
Saw a bumper sticker that read “I’ll give you my tomahawk when you pry it from my cold dead hands.”
I took off Wednesday and yesterday and got a decent amount of cleaning up done around the house. Wednesday we cleaned out the garage. Big load of garbage and recycling and giveaways. Need to sell three pieces of furniture.
Wednesday evening M and A went out to eat at Supremo, near Oakland Cemetery. I told M he needed to try Agave, which is around the corner. Anna stopped by our house for a few minutes. W&MC went to St. Augustine for the weekend with another couple.
Yesterday we cleaned out our bedroom. We had stuff piled up everywhere, and almost all of it has been moved out. I need to sell off some bobbleheads and my 35 year collection of Sports Illustrateds. After taking a break for a late lunch (turkey quesadillas) we worked well past 6 pm. I was exhausted from all the bending and carrying and using muscles that usually remain docile.
Ceil cooked black beans and rice. After a day at the farm, M ate with us. Cleaned the kitchen. Watched Jeopardy and Holy Moly. Then a Hallmark movie rerun.
Matthew 6:14-15 “For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Herschel Walker quoted this verse when asking why we are penalizing people for what their ancestors did. Instead of trying to read the room, I need to read the Bible. Need to compile a top hundred verses list.

CLINT COURTNEY [SABR Bio] hit the first home run in Baltimore Orioles history starting in 1954. On 15-Apr-1954 in the Orioles’ third game after their relocation from St. Louis, Courtney thrilled 46,354 home opener fans by clouting the first-ever MLB home run in Memorial Stadium. He hit it off Virgil Trucks. Courtney is one of just ten catchers to record two unassisted double plays in their careers - UDPs in 1958 w/WSH & 1960 w/BAL. Complete list here. None of even the most diligent researchers have found any evidence that he and Billy Martin ever exchanged holiday cards. Both were tough, hard-nosed, even pugnacious personalities. There was no love lost between Scrap Iron and Billy the Kid. They clashed bitterly and often.
