The Braves sent Sean Newcomb down to the minors. That leaves Max Fried as the only starting pitcher remaining from opening day, just a few weeks ago. Now the Braves are down SIX starting pitchers: (1) Newcomb (2) Soroka (3) Folty (4) Hamels (5) Fernandez (6) Chachin. But they're still in first place.
Discovered a young black female Braves fan on Twitter who keeps a detailed scorecard of every game – in ink. Notes balls and strikes, total pitches for each pitcher, substitutions, how runners advance base to base, and changes ink color when the team changes pitchers. She's a big Johan Camargo fan.
Did you feel the earthquake this weekend? I didn't, but heard a good story from my friend in Charlotte. When the quake hit his wife was in his "bobblehead room". "Was that an earthquake?" she asked. She looked around the room and 700 bobbleheads were nodding yes. She'd better hope it was an earthquake. Otherwise she was surrounded by a bunch of possessed bobbleheads.
Slow day in quarantine. Drove straight home from work. Supper was baked chicken, Mexican rice, and tossed salad. Watched the Braves. After the Braves game went off, the movie A League of Their Own came on. I so rarely see the beginning of that movie I watched the first hour of so before going to bed.
Denison on Jeremiah 29: Jews were in exile in Babylon, living among pagans who had destroyed the temple and nation. The Jews were antagonistic. Speaking through Jeremiah, God gave three empowering imperatives: (1) choose compassion and character no matter how you are treated, (2) trust God for a better future, and (3) seek God with all your heart. Denison quoted Eisenhower: "A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both."
Sweden had a different response to the pandemic – and got a different result. Not seeing this much in the news.
Article: is one political party's dream world collapsing into a nightmare?
FERNANDO VALENZUELA [B-R Bio] was the winning pitcher of the first regular-season MLB game played outside the U.S. or Canada. Won for the Padres over the Mets 16-Aug-1996 playing in the Estadio de Beisbol Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico with 23,699 people in attendance. The person he beat was the rookie Robert.Person. Pitching for both the Orioles and Cardinals, he just missed the avian trifecta. Pitched for BAL in 1993; STL was his last stop in MLB in 1997. He played for a franchise that won two World Series, but he only participated in one of them. LAD won the WS in 1981 & 1988. Injuries kept Valenzuela on the bench in 1988.
Outfielders over whose heads MLB's 11 postseason-series-clinching, walk-off home runs were hit.
