Matthew 7:1-5

There’s a passage in the book of Matthew that is applicable to something going on in my radar screen. Turned out to be the same verse a friend had shared this weekend. The words of Jesus. Applicable to me. To everyone. Good words to remember before opening my mouth or sending a text. Do you agree?

Judge not, that you not be judged.
For with the judgement you pronounce you will be judged,
and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.
Why do you see the speck in your brother’s eye,
but not notice the log that is in your own eye?
Or how can you say to your brother
‘Let me take the speck out of your eye’
when there is the log in your own eye?
You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye,
and then you will see clearly
to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

Likewise, today Jim Denison: reminds us to be civil in politics (and in all areas of life): We are instructed: "Let your speech always be gracious" (Colossians 4:6)…"Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking" (Ephesians 5:4)…Do this even—and especially—if the nominee expresses positions that you believe to be unbiblical. Scripture is clear: "Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless" (1 Peter 3:9).
Joel Rosenberg: Biden is expected to announce his VP selection in the coming days, before the convention begins. His choice becomes all the more important since he has signaled that he will only serve one term in office, if elected. Biden has promised to choose a woman, potentially elevating his choice to becoming America's first woman Commander-in-Chief. His "short list" is actually quite long - and controversial. The New York Times' "FiveThirtyEight" column has noted that Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and the pandemic have already pushed Biden "to the left" and asked, "how far will he go?" Could his VP choice push him too far left to compete effectively in the general election? …is Biden the "shoo-in" to win in November that nearly all media analysts are predicting? On July 20th, Biden held a 10 point lead over President Trump…Watch for Biden to get a significant "bounce" in the polls as the mainstream media lavishes high praise on him and whomever he chooses as his running mate.
Enough politics. Have a good weekend? After a busy Thursday I was happy to sit at the table and work from home all day Friday. Matthew joined Ceil and me for burgers and fries and apple pie. Watched a good movie: Peanut Butter Falcon, about a young man with Down’s Syndrome.

Housework on Saturday after sleeping late. Did work upstairs then started laundry downstairs. Leftover burgers for lunch. Cleaned out the garage. Ceil had moved a bookcase from the garage into the dining room, and it allowed me to clear out the rest of the garage, and move my car inside for the first time in over a year. So nice. Then I mowed the lawn and cleaned off the driveway.

Anna had to work until 7:10, then she joined us for supper. Also M and W&MC. BBQ, corn on the cob. cole slaw, purple potato salad, more apple pie, and ice cream. Very good. It was after ten before everyone departed. I was exhausted. During the night I had painful leg cramps, from all the work in the 90+ degree heat. I never get leg cramps.

JFBC Sunday School and Passion City Church service on line. For the record Louie mentioned all this out of the ordinary pandemic activity will probably be lasting beyond the end of the year. Leftover BBQ and slaw for lunch (and later for supper). Also apple pie. Turned on the Braves, and also the PGA Championship. The young winner of the PGA Championship had to pay over 50% of his winnings in taxes, thanks to the state of California’s high tax rates.

Later C and I went to Home Depot to shop for a new refrigerator. Due to the pandemic appliances are on backorder for well over a month.
For lunch today I grabbed a takeout burger from Big Daddy’s Burger Bar, down Peachtree Industrial ITP. Very good. It was a big’un, so the pink on the inside was understandable. The burger came with breaded bacon on top, which I ate on the drive back to the office, along with the delicious tater tots. I wanted to order the sweet potato fries, but figured tots were easier to eat in the car.

Before someone quips “you sure are eating out a lot lately” let it be known that Big Daddy’s was a free birthday meal – as was last week’s Ruby Tuesday and CiCi’s. Got a few more birthday deals to go: Steak & Shake, Red Robin, Moe’s, Taco Bell, Zaxby's, and Firebirds to name a few. Remember, judge not.

Hate to hear that about the snake sightings. I’ve only seen the one, late on the warm night about 2 weeks ago. Saw several deer on the way to work this AM, almost a daily thing. Man the birds in our woods have been really squalking lately.

Will says things are busy at his hospital. Matthew is applying for job openings at a couple of Ford Fry restaurants.
In addition to her 40 hour weeks at High Country, Anna is keeping her job at Madewell, and continues her freelance graphic design work at Grace Athens Church. She’s also publishing her popular Quarantine Diaries newsletter. She has two close friends getting married, which she’s helping to plan. So Anna is quite busy. While I went with her to look, she bought her new car without my help – both the car and loan are in her name. She’s paying for her food, rent, and insurance as well.

Google has told their employees they can work from home for the next year, so after less than one month in Michigan, MC’s brother Thomas and bride Holly decided to move back to Atlanta from Ann Arbor, They’re renting an apartment at Peachtree and Collier. Holly’s brother Conner (the former Oglethorpe basketball player) flew up and helped them move back.

Joel Norman has set a wedding date, in October or November. Looks to be a small family wedding.
