The franchise went through six other names before settling on Braves. The team should wear throwbacks for all six. Doves, Rustlers, and Bees should be finalists when a new team name is selected.
1871 Red Stockings
1876 Red Caps
1883 Beaneaters
1907 Doves
1911 Rustlers
1912 Braves 1912-35, 1941-on
1936 Bees
Additionally, the team should wear the following throwback Braves uniforms, in part to honor Hank Aaron.
1957 world champions, with dark tomahawk
1969 division champions: pinstripe
1974 feather throwbacks
1982 division champions: powder blues.
More activists across the nation are calling for the Braves to change their name to Hammers. Yesterday Uni Watch posted horrid wordmarks and uniforms for the team. The letters weren’t even the same height. The team's name has never been red, a color Aaron sought to minimize. Many suggestions, though a uniform designed by committee always looks inferior. Is HAmmErs really a good look? Would any fan like these unis if their team wore them? Certainly not. Simple is best.
Perhaps at the end of the season, before the last home game (if not during Hank Aaron weekend in August), the Braves can announce the name change to Hammers. If you’re going to honor Hank by changing the name of the team, might as well go all in and have the uniforms honor Aaron as well. My suggestions…
Colors: predominantly royal blue, with red trim, as Aaron suggested.
Cap: the iconic 1974 white front cap. An all-royal road cap would be cool. Lower case a. Add a separate alternate or BP cap down the road, after you’ve sold plenty of home and road caps.
Jersey: forget about a hammer with tomahawk-like lacing. If you're changing the name of the team, then distance yourself from all Indian imagery. Either add a regulation navy sledgehammer underneath a professionally-designed Hammers wordmark, or leave it off. Add numbers to the front. If royal, keep the contrasting sleeve design from the 74 unis – with a hammer replacing the feather. As a nod to Hank, bring back the distinctive flowing italic numbers from 72-73.
Road grey jerseys, with a royal sleeves and Hammers on the front. Aaron always wore Braves on his road jersey, never Atlanta.
Third jersey: royal with white sleeves, like Hank wore. Add a red alternate jersey in a year or three. Get the fans to buy the white, royal, and grey jerseys first.
Pants should have the distinctive skinny royal and red stripe. Home white and road grey.
Socks: royal with traditional Braves white/red/white stripes to honor Hank.
Spikes: black, to honor Hank. Not white. Not grey. Black.
Trivia: After setting the career record for hits, Cap Anson continued to extend his record for the next 17 seasons (with his 870th hit in 1880, he passed Cal McVey. From hit #871 to #3435 took Anson until 1897. Anson’s record wasn’t broken until Ty Cobb passed it in 1923 and held on until Pete Rose in 1985).
According to HollyGerth.com, I scored as a 75% introvert. According to extroverts, that does not mean I don’t have to perform all my extrovert duties. What Would Life Really Be Like After an EMP Attack? Probably the scariest article I’ve ever read. Society is totally unprepared. Life would return to the 1800’s for ten years. Forget computers, phones, and cars.
1. The power grid would be completely down. No electronics or cars would work. You couldn’t access money in bank accounts. For this reason you should keep a $1,000.00 emergency fund hidden in your house. But cash will quickly lose value, so buy supplies in the hours immediately after the attack.
2. Panic in the streets, especially the first 24-72 hours. Huge spikes in crime, home invasions, and robberies. Riots. Stay locked inside your house.
3. Martial Law will be declared. Individual rights would be suspended. Government will confiscate firearms and whatever else they want – including food. Leave some of your food out in the open, in easy to find places. Hide the bulk of your food in hard to find places. Don’t trust the media, who will be taken over by government. No more freedom of speech or assembly. Checkpoints will limit travel. Join a survival group. Safety in numbers.
