R.I.P. Bill Russell

Basketball legend Bill Russell died. I always remember a blurb in the Scorecard section of Sports Illustrated, back in the 70’s or 80’s, when Russell was asked how much he was making from his Bell Telephone endorsement. His reply: “Expect a rate hike.” No one will ever come close to the number of championships won by Russell.

High school: 3 seasons / 2 championships

College: 3 seasons / 2 championships.

Olympics: one Olympiad / one gold medal

Celtics: 13 seasons / 11 championships.

Total: 20 seasons / 16 championships.

DENISON: the Commerce Department reported on Thursday the US economy shrank for the second consecutive quarter, meeting the definition for a recession.

What started out as a nice essay on attending a baseball game, that turned ugly in the comments. Best reader tip: score every ball game, at least until each team gets a hit - so you’ll have a nice record / souvenir if a no-hitter or perfect game is thrown.

WILLIE DAVIS [B-R Bio] in addition to MON & TEX, Davis began and ended his time in the majors with two Los Angeles teams, LAD & CAL. He also played for STL, SDP as well as the Lions and Dragons in Japan and the Red Eagles in Mexico.  Davis won Most Valuable Player awards in consecutive seasons, in 1959 in the C-level California League (later A ball) with the Reno Silver Sox. Moving up to the AAA Spokane Indians in 1960, he was named MVP of the PCL and debuted in the majors. Davis was once tagged out at first bae by Willie Mays. Mays was playing first base for the first time in his major league career, is shown tagging out Davis on a 3rd-inning pick-off on 01-May-1964

Why did the Chic-fil-A cross Cobb Parkway? To move into a new restaurant more conveniently located, albeit closer to KFC. Who's the big chicken now?
