The Braves were on my TV on Monday night, a rare occurrence. They were leading 8-0 when I turned it on, and held on to win 8-3. Pitcher had a no-hitter into the 7th before giving up a HR. Bummer pitched like his name suggests. So I wore my navy pullover for the second straight day today.
Ozuna didn’t make the trip to Toronto. Has a sore hip. I think the MRI showed that he wasn’t hurt too bad. Hopefully will be back in the lineup this weekend. Some said his hip was hurt from having to carry the entire team on his back. Braves lost on Tuesday night so I wore a different tomahawk pullover to work and small group on Wednesday, in an effort to change their luck. Young coworker Austin said he’s jealous of all the Braves gear I’ve been wearing lately, so I had to tell him why I’m wearing it all.
Braves lost again yesterday. Strider pitched well in his return, but the offense struck out 19 times, a record. I’m not going to worry about it. Would be hard for me to believe they would fire Snitker in the middle of the season, though stranger things have happened. Not Snitker’s fault they haven’t had Strider or Acuna and another starter is hurt and the free agent outfielder got suspended for drugs. But if they don’t bounce back I could see Snitker retiring at the end of the season. Not sure who they would replace Snitker with, unless it is the third base coach Tooey, who was previously manager in Rome and Gwinnett.
Monday: left work at 6 pm. Ceil had her group call so I fixed quesadillas from leftovers for supper. Good thing I had picked up cheese and shells from Kroger on Sunday. Got home and cut the grass, sucking up most of the thousand plus prickly little gumballs that had fallen in our yard and driveway. As always I’m not sure I was able to pick up 90% of them, meaning dozens if not hundreds were still on the ground. Worked until dark. For the most part the pollen didn’t get me too bad. Then Tuesday was a windy day. Got home to find the yard and driveway again covered with those pesky gumballs. Ugh.
Lunch at Que on Tuesday was good. Chopped pork sandwich but the bun is so big and thick. Need to get a plate next time. Lots of fries. Wasn’t crazy about the broccoli rice casserole. Broccoli was cut too big, and was still crunchy instead of cooked soft. Ate with Dennis, Daniel, Brad, Eric, and our host Ken Miller. Ken gave us cookies as well, but I was full from lunch the rest of the afternoon. Worked until 550.
Ceil fixed supper: grilled chicken, grilled asparagus, jasmine rice, and squash. She had cooked bread and rolls and cinnamon rolls. Up early Wednesday to lift weights at the gym.
Had several long chats on Tuesday morning with various coworkers that I rarely stop to chat with: Sue, Samantha, Ann, Dave, and Austin. Yesterday the best parking space was open, at the end of the row closest to the office. Usually I’ll park at the far end of the lot. Of course when I walked out of the office at 6 pm I forgot. The was one car in the middle of the parking lot, and Ann was getting her car to leave. I couldn’t see my car at the far end of the lot, but figured it was behind Ann’s car. So I walked behind her car just after she got inside. Then I saw my car wasn’t there, and remembered I had parked back close to the front door. So I had to loop around her car to get back to my car. She probably thought I was stalking her. She didn’t leave until I plled out of the lot. That’s why I went to talk to her this morning, to apologize for my odd behavior.
Speaking of odd behavior, when I took up my usual spot on the treadmill closest to the front desk I noticed my check in profile stayed up on the computer for a long time, since no one else had come in to check in. Not sure who was the odd one. Probably me.

PETE ROSE [SABR Bio] is the only batter with 175 hits in a season 16 times. Ty Cobb and Derek Jeter came close with 15 each. He is the only player to compile multiple 20-game hit streaks for different teams, for the Reds and Phillies. He was the last batter to face Denny McLain. On 12-Sep-1972, McLain came in to relieve for the Braves in the 9th inning. Rose’s hit was not the only one, but it was the last one. McLain was pulled afterward.
