Micah 6:8

As far as I know, nothing special on the calendar between now and Christmas, except to mail out Christmas cards if they ever come in. Got to buy stamps. I do have lots of odds and ends to do. Could’ve played golf this morning except for my aching stomach, and everything else.

I was reminded the time the chapel choir was singing in the evening service. An old girlfriend arrived late and sat down front near the piano. When the choir filed out of the loft from the other side past the organ. I walked up the far side aisle all the way out into the vestibule, then came around to the other far side ailse and went down to sit with my old friend. What I hadn’t realized was that several of the high school boys had followed me out – and didn’t return – until Mr. Condra told me.

My buddy is headed to a seminar at “the Cove” some time next year. Might make it a guys trip. Other 2026 trips: the guys in Sunday School may spend a weekend together in north Georgia in May. Also a mission trip back to the Himalayan mountain region in west India. 17000 feet in elevation. Beautiful mountains.

After a pastor has been at JFBC like 5 years, they get to take a “sabbatical” that lasts like one or two months. Probably in addition to whatever vacation they get for the year. Plus some are always going off to conventions / seminars in faraway places. Every summer the convention of recreation ministers meets in a different MLB city, and takes in a ball game. Danny Downing posts pictures of the group every year. JFBC has an Executive Pastor as well as every kind of this and that pastor. Hard to tell the players without a scorecard.

Denison: to an Islamist, every person who lives in a nation who supports Israel is a potential target of Islamist terrorism. As I explained in Radical Islam: What You Need to Know and on our website, jihadists believe the West has been attacking Islam since the Crusades and especially by supporting Israel, a nation “stealing” its land from its rightful Palestinian owners. They believe the West is comprised of democracies where the people elect their leaders and support their military, so we are all complicit in this “attack” on Islam. The Quran requires Muslims to defend Islam (cf. Surah 2:190), so jihadists believe they are required to attack those in the West in order to defend the Muslim faith. What happened in Israel on October 7th and in Australia on December 14th could happen in the US. What Jesus did to transform Saul of Tarsus, he can do to transform any jihadist terrorist. God is appearing to Muslims in visions and dreams, sparking a remarkable spiritual awakening in the Islamic world.  Joel Rosenberg reports that more Muslims have come to faith in Christ in the last 50 years than in the last 14 centuries combined.

People who still look young after 60 usually follow these daily habits.

1. Prioritize sleep.

2. Manage stress before it manages you.

3. Stay hydrated.

4. Move your body – regularly.

5. Protect your skin from the sun.

6. Eat nutrient rich foods most of the time.

7. Maintain a positive but realistic outlook.

8. Stay mentally engaged and curious.

9. Practice moderation.

10. Keep strong social connections throughout your lifetime. People who seem ageless are the ones with active social calendars, coffee dates, book clubs, volunteer commitments. They maintain relationships with family, friends, neighbors, and community members. It’s not about being the most popular person. It’s about having meaningful conversations, sharing laughter, and feeling connected to something larger than yourself.
