Yesterday I was on the go from 8 am to 10 pm.
800-815 took Winnie for a walk.
815-930 drive downtown to Collier Metals. Took Lower Roswell to Terrell Mill to Windy Hill to 75 south to 285 west to 20 east to McDaniel Street to Abernathy to Windsor Street.
930-1100 tour Collier Metals. Their warehouses were Atlanta’s original railway warehouses built up after Sherman had burned down Atlanta. Some of the old railroad equipment is still on site, some of which is used by Collier. Two of the overhead cranes used to unload rail cars are by far the most powerful in Georgia. Unused warehouses on the property are rented out for movies to be filmed, so there’s always the possibility that a star like Kevin Hart is on site. A cool place to visit.
1100-100 stop by two thrift stores and Taco Bell.
100-200 meet my cousin at Crest Lawn Cemetery. We make arrangements for our grandmother’s ashes to be buried on January 31st. When I arrived I missed the offices, and drove all over the cemetery, up the hill overlooking the city. A great view. Just about got lost trying to find my way out of there. A good, productive visit. The Whitaker section is near the Wayt section.
200-330 drive to the Oakwood Café in downtown Dalton.
330-800 dinner with my old GT friends Sharon Langley and Steve & Cathy Givens. I had forgotten that Sharon and Cathy had been roommates at Tech while Steve and Cathy were dating. The Givens got married and moved to Lake Charles LA, Tennessee, back to Lake Charles, Valdosta, Houston, Cleveland Ohio, and then Beaumont. When Steve joined SPdL, Dr March mispronounced “Givens” as “Gwens”. Steve remembered at least three of his Mighty Mites, including Mary Elizabeth Teem and Kathryn Hayes. His son played baseball at TCU. Steve retired a year ago, and plays pickleball and teaches Sunday School. His dad had been a preacher, who kept notes from all his sermons over the years. Last year they went on a river cruise in Europe. A fun time.
800-1000 drive home. Didn’t stop at Bucees, but did stop for gas, and at Food Lion to stock up on their hard to find diet Mountain Lion soft drinks.
1000-1130 watched the Fiesta Bowl. Exciting. Wasn’t really sure who I wanted to win. Carson Beck ran in the game winner with 16 seconds remaining.
Rain is supposed to come in today.
