UCF Tops Tech

As expected (except for Tech fans), the Jackets lost to #14 Central Florida, in a game marred with turnovers and penalties.

Few remember how many key Jackets missed the game.

GT/UCF: Tech defense good then bad. Sims loses fumble deep in UCF territory. Another Jude Kelley kick is blocked. That's ten points they didn't score. After GT scores quick UCF quickly drives downfield. After a play a Tech defender dropped to the ground, supposedly injured - then quickly gets back up to jaw with a UCF player for calling him out. A bad look GT falls behind 21-7.

Meanwhile Clemson led 28-0 after the first quarter, behind easy TD passes from Trevor Lawrence and a fumble recovery for a score.

Sims' passes look sharp. Except when he was under pressure. A first half fumble and interception - maybe Sims will win QB of the week again.

UCF playing pitch and catch with little trouble. GT DBs wait til the receiver catches the ball to make a play. Color man Greg Elroy calls them out. Nice to have him and Joe Tessitore back calling the game for a second straight week. Joe T's son plays for Boston College.

28 unanswered points for UCF. Clemson up 42-0 after 20 minutes. Sims is taking some shots. Needs to learn to avoid hits, like the UCF QB.

One reason GT fans are obnoxious: no matter who they're playing, no matter how many points they're favored to lose, GT fans blindly / ignorantly boast that they're the superior team. Even if they're playing Clemson. Talk to a Clemson or UGA fan before a game against a tough opponent and the fan isn't predicting a blowout. Because they know from experience: anything can happen, including a loss.

Another pet peeve: on every third down the announcer bellowing "It's Money Down!!!!"

And another: fans complaining the whole game about a bad call. Hey, it happens to every team. Tech fans don't know this because they don't watch any other football games, except Tech games. Tech fans are the least knowledgible fan i know.

Sims clocks the ball on 1st & goal from the nine yard line with 1:23 to go - a very bad call. Then an incompletion to make it 3rd & nine. Then score a touchdown, leaving UCF 1:14 in the half.

Collins puts in the backup kicker for the PAT.

Two more Sims fumbles in the third quarter. Kid is going to have some growing pains. There's more to being an above average college QB than just athletic ability. Decision making is what sets the great ones apart. Sims repeatedly threw deep or carried the ball instead of throwing to open receivers running shorter routes. Twice Sims failed to gain first down yardage on fourth down runs.

Gibbs is a good back. Just wish the fans would quit acting like they're Bama. Tech burns a timeout in the third quarter after almost turning a UCF 4th & 11 into a UCF first down. Too many dumb penalties.

A long Gibbs run brings the Jackets within a touchdown, but the Golden Knights answer with a quick TD drive. Then UCF puts it away with a fourth TD pass with 5:30 to go, to make it 42-21.

Then another Sims interception. Dude is a turnover machine. Final score: 49-21. At least the Jackets have improved.  Tech fans shouldn't expect a sure win next week on the road at 0-2 Syracuse. The Orangemen won't be a pushover.

Tech wore white helmets, jerseys, and pants. The helmets sported gold facemasks. Prediction: expect to see the white jersey / white pants combo again this season. Prediction: expect either gold helmets, or white helmets with navy masks. No way they can repeat the same exact uni set. That would be too much to ask.

Note several Tech players, like #21 Gibbs above, wore long untucked t-shirts that stuck out from underneath their jerseys - with the player's number on them. What a horrible look.
