BREAKING NEWS

BREAKING NEWS: national championship winning UGA QB Stetson Bennett is returning for his final year of eligibility - much to the dismay of many social media experts who've already forgotten that he won the national championship

Speedy WR Jermaine Burton announced his intent to transfer, an hour or so before Bennett's announcement, I believe. i do not think the two decisions are related. burton wants to go to a school that passes more - UGA isn't known as RB U for nothing. UGA's WR coach just accepted a job at another school.

MY BEEF: posts claiming BREAKING NEWS rarely age well.

When people say to enjoy a championship because they are so rare, they are right. A team could be loaded but if one ball bounces the wrong way, it could cost a team the championship. Just ask Bama fans – they still think they deserve the championship because they had two hurt receivers. The fact that UGA also had a depleted receiver core  (and defensive secondary) doesn’t count.

In 1991 the Braves had several chances to win. Lonnie Smith gets deked in one game. Kirby Puckett walked off a game. Kent Hrbek pushed Gant off the bag. Morris outdueled Smoltz.

Was it 1992 when Joe Carter hit the walk-off home run?? But that was against the Phillies in 93.

In 94 the strike whipped out the World Series, robbing another Braves team of another title run.

After winning in 95, the next year the Braves took what, a 3-1 lead over the Yankees before the Jim Leyritz home run.  In 98 the Yankees beat them again. Umpire Eric Gregg squeezed the strike zone. Then there was the infield fly rule caper.

In 2000 the Braves were up 3-1 against the heavily favored Dodgers, a game away from the World Series, before losing steam.

Same with UGA. After winning the title in 1980 the next year the Dawgs lost one game – to eventual undefeated national champion Clemson. In 1982 the Dawgs ran the table, only to lose the de-facto national championship Sugar Bowl to Penn State.

Earlier last decade the Dawgs were driving against Bama when they ran out of time. Close but no victory cigar.

Was it 2017 in overtime UGA had Bama backed up, only to have Tua come off the bench and toss an unlikely TD pass for the win.

In the Super Bowl the Falcons led the Patriots...you know this story.

This season Tech came close in three or four games but weren’t able to seal the deal.

The Cowboys are having problems even coming close to a championship. Not sure why so many announcers wanted to call the SF/Dallas game instead of the Bucs/Eagles. When Romo was QB fans wanted him hung. What about Dak?

Just when you think things can't get screwed up any worse...
