Though Baugh rarely threw the football in high school, he followed a backfield mate to the University of Texas on a baseball-only scholarship. After four days Baugh changed his mind, and caught the train to Ft. Worth so he could play football, basketball, and baseball for the Horned Frogs. Baugh helped convert the NFL from a rugby-like scrum to the modern-day wide open passing game. He was an All-Pro safety, and one of the greatest punters in NFL history. Many consider Sammy Baugh to be the Babe Ruth of football.
Fun Fact: the freshman teams at UGA were called the Bullpups. Georgia Tech’s freshman teams were the Baby Jackets. At TCU the freshman teams were called the Pollywogs. I knocked out 10% of the book Sunday night. Hopefully actually reading a book will keep me off social media.
YouTube: I’ve been watching speeches by Steve Martin and Martin Short. Also Tonight Show videos of Bob Uecker. Michael Jordan on Late Night with David Letterman.
The daughter of a couple in our Sunday School class works for the Hawks. She has to get tested every day. Supposedly the entire Hawks organization will be vaccinated soon.
A good small group session at church last night, studying John 10:1-21. At home Ceil had on a Hallmark movie about a hockey player and ballerina. Later I watched a couple of Seinfeld episodes. The one where Jerry and Elaine were stuck at a party out on Long Island, and the next day the host repaid the favor by dropping in on Jerry.
I had stopped by Taco Bell on the way to small group. This morning I stopped by McDonalds on the way to work.
Denison: “Will Christians be the victims of censorship by social media companies in the future? Email distributors can decide to block content they find objectionable. Conservative voices can be marginalized or blocked by the liberal bias of mainstream media. Commentator Jonah Goldberg is right: “Democracy is supposed to be about disagreements, not agreements. Forced unity, outside of war or some other national emergency, is antithetical to democracy and poisonous to civility. It’s become a cliché to say we live in two Americas. If that’s true, the people running the media of each nation have an obligation to do more than just live off demonization of the other nation.” it is important to understand why this is happening today.
Consider three cultural factors One: Our nation faces genuine threats. Sex trafficking is rising to “horrific dimensions.” Cyberterrorism is a very real threat. As a result, we can expect escalating calls for media publishers and platforms to regulate content to protect their readers and the larger society. Two: Many non-Christians consider biblical morality to be hateful and prejudiced. For example, they believe the biblical prohibition against homosexual activity to be homophobic. They see our defense of life at conception as a war on women’s bodies and rights. If “hate speech” includes biblical truth, we can expect to see biblical truth censored by some. Three: Our culture has no objective basis for determining truth. Postmodern relativism has convinced our culture that all truth is personal and subjective. As a result, we have limited ability to reason objectively about issues such as religious liberty. Writers, editors, and publishers can be expected to do what advances their personal agendas and financial interests.”
Players who hit 2 home runs in extra innings of the same game. Four of the nine players to hit two extra-inning home runs in a single game, did not start in that game: Matt Adams, John Mayberry, Mike Young and Art Shamsky.
