Senior Citizen Axe Throwing

You will be happy to know that I receive emails from the Johnson Ferry senior adult ministry. This Thursday night the senior adults are throwing axes. Want to go with me?

Sometimes the JFBC service will be extra exciting when someone is enthusiastic about being baptized.

Lang is in Dallas covering SEC Media Days. Interesting that event is in Dallas at the same time as the MLB All Star Game.

Two new skyscrapers have been built next to the Braves stadium, in addition to The Battery shopping complex. Now a third office tower has been proposed – right where my company’s Braves parking space is located.

I hate it when everything is so busy. Last week I didn’t get half as much done as I would’ve like, but got the physical therapy set up and work done on three cars. Will have plenty to do when I retire. Actually Ceil is leaving town Thursday for the beach and won’t be back until Sunday late, so I’ll have time to do stuff. But even that time is filling up. Not sure if I will go to axe-throwing on Thursday night. Will probably golf on Saturday morning if it doesn’t rain, and the guys may gather for lunch after that – so that’s half the day right there.

Yesterday I left work shortly after 5 pm. Stopped by Taco Bell for my free order of nacho fries, which was good because we didn’t eat supper until late. A great supper of BBQ, fries, and slaw.

Watched an interview with new VP candidate JD Vance, the junior senator from Ohio. Had you heard of him? Several at work didn’t know who he is. Very articulate on a wide range of topics. The classic American story. Grew up dirt poor in Appalachia. Father left, mother a drug addict. Raised by his grandmother. After high school he joined the Marines and served in Iraq, then went to Ohio State on the GI Bill. Worked several jobs in college and at Yale, including bussing tables. Kept having to return to Ohio to care for his drug addicted mother. After Yale he became a successful businessman. As senator he's fought for the citizens of Ohio. His memoir “Hillbilly Elegy” is a great read, and was made into an award-winning movie by Ron Howard. It was filmed in Georgia, starring Glenn Close and Amy Adams.

I forgot to take a Tylenol before bed and woke up in pain. Sound familiar? Went downstairs and slept on the couch with the heating pad. Skipped the gym this morning but did most all of my assigned exercises.

Men’s Bible Study tonight. C is picking up a friend at the airport.

The “coolest attraction in every state”. For Georgia it’s the World of Coke Museum.

Article: it’s okay to break your exercise streak for rest. In the long run it helps improve your fitness and overall well-being – and the well-being of those around you.

Article: the Pennsylvania shooter was spotted, videoed, and reported to authorities almost 30 minutes before shots were fired, leading to serious questions about the reaction by Secret Service. Will there be a legitimate investigation.

CARLTON FISK [SABR Bio] was the first player to hit more than 60 home runs after he turned 40, with a total of 72 over the 6 seasons he played after his 40th birthday. He was the first unanimous American League Rookie of the Year award winner, in 1972. The only unanimous ROYs before Fisk were in the NL: F. Robinson, Cepeda & McCovey. Since ’72 each league has had 11 more each. Fisk was the first player to hit no triples in a full season the year after he had led the league in that category. He led the AL with nine in 457 AB in 1972. In ’73, with 508 AB, he hit nary a one.
