Thrill Seeking

I was never much of a thrill seeker. Enjoyed roller coasters and amusement park rides back in the day, but that was about it. On Wednesday morning at physical therapy the talk was about thrill seeking- bungee jumping and parachuting out of airplanes. No desire from me. The older I get the less of a thrill seeker I am becoming. I used to want to go on road trips, but I'm not so crazy about driving any more, with all the crazies out there.

In the book "The Anxious Generation" the author does encourage parents to give children increasingly more responsibility and freedom as they age. Also rites of passage and age-appropriate birthday presents.

Several stories in the news about older leaders saying things out loud that they shouldn't. A real challenge the older I get. It is super tough. I really need to get my thought life in better order as I get older, for fear of saying something hurtful to friends and especially loved ones.

Saw where Caitlin Clark broke the record for most assists in a game last night, with 19. Her teammates were finally sinking the shots Clark had set up for them. Previously Caitlin had tied the franchise record for assists several times, with 13. A few days ago she reached 13 assists with 2 or 3 minutes to go, then proceeded to make several more good passes, but her teammates shots refused to fall. Saw a comparison of total WNBA all star votes from last year to this year. Last year that MVP from Vegas was the leading vote getter, with about 95,000 votes. This year Caitlin was the leader with well over 700,000 votes.

I worked until 530 Wednesday night. Supper was chicken, peas, and baked potato. Watched several good speeches at the Republican National Convention: the Presidential aide who was unjustly imprisoned, Donald Trump Jr, Trump's granddaughter. JD Vance's wife introduced him. She is the daughter of legal immigrants.

I shouldn't be surprised at the bad service from fast food restaurants. Took 25 minutes to get my order at Taco Bell. The $5 burrito is the same size as the dollar burrito. Since they were shorthanded they gave me a free drink – but the fountain was out of several flavors.

Currently down to 13 emails in my in box. Hopefully even lower by Friday afternoon. Tomorrow I will be the only team member in the office. Taking short lunches today and tomorrow so I can get back home to Winnie. They don't want us working overtime because my customer has been shut down for 3 weeks, but it's hard to get everything they want done – getting rid of old material, etc.

Ceil always leaves more food than I can eat. She pulled a lasagna out of the freezer, but there's already BBQ, leftover ground beef, chicken, and black beans to make quesadillas. She'll only be gone for like 5 of my meals. We'll see.

When I go to games with die-hard baseball fans I will wear one of my unique Braves jerseys. Either my 1976 Andy Messersmith "Channel 17" jersey, or my 1977 manager Ted Turner jersey.

I hate to get out on the weekend when possible. This weekend I will chill out and watch golf and basketball and maybe a few movies. I don't think my physical therapist wants me back golfing just yet. Thursday's movies: Randy Quaid and Cheech Marin in The Long Game, and Brooke Shields and Amanda Cosgrove in Mother of the Bride.

C buys a lot from Amazon. I keep hearing about them changing the rules but really don't know. I have several Amazon and WalMart gift cards to use not really don't need anything. There are shoes and caps and a cooler I need to get but its not like I really need them, though I need to use up the gift cards.

Speaking of road trips, here's a list of possible fun road trips. This week I entered a contest to win a new car. The catch is that the car has to be picked up within 24 hours of notification – in New Jersey. Would have to arrange a quick flight or make a hasty 14 hour drive with a copilot recruited at the last second.

How do people know who to vote for if they don't follow the news? Not sure where people like my kids get their political information. Do they let the media sift and filter and only present the news they want you to hear? So much in the media these days is bias and slanted, as opposed to actual facts.

FRANK THOMAS [B-R Bio] hit the history's first regular-season home run in the month of March. Thomas provided all his team's runs when he homered off Randy Johnson in the first inning on 31‑Mar‑1996 as his White Sox fell to Seattle 3‑2. Frank's 448 home runs leads all White Sox batters. His career total is 521, tying Ted Williams and Willie McCovey on the career list. Thomas led the league in walks in four of the first five full seasons, with 138, 122, 109, and 136 in 1991, 1992, 1994 & 1995.
