The Week That Was

Tuesday my sciatica started hurting bad. Left work at 515. Stopped by Arby’s for their $1 fries. Got home and walked Winnie. Was hurting so bad that I didn’t go to men’s Bible study. Anyway C called and wanted me to water her plants outside.

Re-watched the movie about how Nike signed Michael Jordan, with Ben Affleck as Phil Knight and Matt Damon as Sonny Vaccaro. Jason Bateman in it as well.

I thought moving might help with the sciatica. Didn’t sleep well, but I got up extra early to play golf. It was probably the Advil that made me feel better. Teed off at 615 with the vet. Pretty much played one ball, with a mulligan here or there.

1. Decent hybrid off the tee. Pulled a 6 iron left. Great chip onto the green. Three putt for bogey.

2. Found a ball with no markings. Hit it and it turned out to be a light up ball, which doesn’t travel as far. Cruddy tee shot. Decent chip. Three putt. Double.

3. Okay 8 iron that bounced down the bank on the left. Chipped two balls, both decent.  Two putt for bogey.

4. Cruddy 7 iron off tee. Decent chip to fringe. Three putt from a great distance. Double.

5. Two cruddy 6 irons off the tee. Pulled one fairway shot left but hit my mulligan to the fringe. Two putt for bogey.

6. Great long, high, straight hybrid off the tee, that rolled far past the 150 yard marker. My best drive ever on that hole, maybe anywhere. Shot of the day. Then I hit a 7 iron that felt good, but I never saw it. Dropped a ball and hit a couple of decent chips and putts.

7. Hit another decent tee shot with my hybrid. After a flub I hit a fairway shot that was just fair. Then a good long chip onto the green. Another three putt. Triple.

8. Another fine tee shot. Fairway flub, then a decent wedge to the fringe. While waiting on my playing partner I hit three chips, all good to fair. Two putt for a double.

9. Hit a good hybrid, but it never gets good distance going up the steep hill. Good chip onto green. Three putt for a closing double. Finished at 730. Not a bad round considering my pain.

Later I went to the Toyota dealership in Roswell getting a recall notice checked. I might as well keep moving. It hurts the worst to be lying down.

Getting close to the end of “The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek” Very good, about the persecution a blue woman was getting in backwoods Kentucky during reconstruction. Not sure I’d heard of the blue-skinned people in Kentucky, who have about all died out.

Matthew is having car trouble. Caleb was helping him move. I I skipped the dinner and fireworks at my friend Shawn’s house. It was be too late of an evening.

Thursday night C cooked burgers and fries.

On the way home from golf Friday morning I stopped at Kroger for Mtn Dew, Dollar Tree for drink mix, RaceTrac for my free Mtn Dew, and BP for gas and ice. Later I had to go back to the nearby Texaco across from Stinky Kroger for more ice. The rest of the day I was cleaning house and helping with meal prep. The good thing was that all the moving around helped ward off the sciatic pain. Painted a happy birthday banner for Will.

Kept feeding ice cubes into the ice cream maker. A&C and Goose arrived, followed by W&MC and the girls. Then M called, and I drove to North Springs MARTA to pick him up.

The Mexican feast: shredded beef slow cooked in the crock pot, beans, rice, homemage salsa, a corn salad / dip, chicken burritos, peach cobbler, and the homemade vanilla ice cream. Good stuff. Afterwards Caleb and I did some of the cleaning up. Left some for today after the dishwasher was full. After everyone left I dozed off on the couch.

Slept til 9 am. So did Ceil. Straightened the house a little and did more dishes, but that is about it. Watched basketball and golf. Did some stretches to help with the sciatica, and used a heating pad. Now I’m sore from the stretching.

Going to the Earharts for supper tonight. A&C are going to the Braves game.
