Braves reliever Will Smith knows batters will chase bad pitches, because they want to hit home runs so bad. Hit taters. Nobody cares any more how many times a player strikes out, which is a shame. That’s why I’m so glad to see that Austin Riley hasn’t struck out in his last 18 plate appearances – and 13 of those appearances were productive. That being said, earlier this week we saw a Braves reliever walk in a run. I hate walks. Most batters have averages well below .300. Get them to hit the ball.
Thursday: I worked to almost 5:30, then home. Black beans and rice for supper. Watched the movie Nearlyweds, with Naomi Judd as the mother-in-law. She looked good for being 69 when the movie was filmed. Her daughter-in-law had been in the movie Sky High with Kurt Russell. She was from Augusta.UGA QB analysis:
LEW BURDETTE [SABR Bio] a one-time Yankee reliever, he defeated the Yankees in the World Series. Debuted in the majors with NYY in 1950. With the MLN in 1957 won the WS and with his 3-0 record, was named WS MVP and became the first pitcher since Stan Coveleski in 1920 to earn three complete game wins in a WS. From 1954 through 1961 he had at least ten complete games each season, one year leading the majors. His CG totals were 13, 11, 16, 14, 19, 20, 18 & 14 1954-61. The small town where he was born is known as “a Living Memorial to World War I.” Born in Nitro, West Virginia. The name comes from nitrocellulose, the main ingredient in smokeless gunpowder, produced there during The Great War.
Success is a byproduct of hard work. It’s not the finish line, but part of the experiences and journey. Two books many successful people have read:
The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho
The E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber. Working hard is not enough. Work ON your business, not just IN your business.
