Though Anna does not live with us, at some point she made a donation to some organization that must’ve shared her info with all sorts of charitable organizations. Almost every day we receive several solititations in the mail in her name. Many are packed with various “gifts” like notepads, greeting cards, stickers, and even a windcatcher and crucifix. I’ve started opening the envelopes to see what prizes I can find. I just checked a couple of other Christmas cards that I had saved and sure enough, Mary has a halo on those as well.

Slept late this Thursday morning and there was frost on the car, so I was late to the gym this morning. I hurried through my weightlifting workout. Since I was cutting it short, I added more weight to my lifts. Then my other friend Reid arrived, so I made a point to talk to him since he was having to clean out his office after being laid off. He was on the chopping block for several reasons: (1) his age, (2) work is not heavy, (3) others are being laid off as well, and (4) his super-nice studio was prime space that NBA on TNT wanted for themselves – Shaq in particular, Anyway, I just made it to work right at 8 am.

Was tired Wednesday. Worked until 6 pm. Then washed and folded several loads of clothes and towels. Cleaned up. Ceil had her school Thanksgiving luncheon, so we had those leftovers for supper: turkey, dressing, corn, green beans, and mashed potatoes. Catered from Cracker Barrell. Watched Jeopardy. C started a Lifetime movie “Merry Swissmas” that “starred” Jodie Sweein from Full House. She is starting to look more and more like one of those generic actresses that are always on the Hallmark Channel. I went to bed at 9:30.

EARLE COMBS [SABR Bio]: his record for most hits in a season for the Yankees was broken by Don Mattingly in 1986. Combs had 231 hits in 1927. Mattingly had 238 in 1986. Combs was the first Hall of Famer elected from Kentucky, in 1970. 3 other HOFers from the Bluegrass State are Happy Chandler (1982); Pee Wee Reese (1984); & Jim Bunning (1996). Earle was one of the few to pinch-hit for Lou Gehrig during Gehrig’s famous streak, on 15-Sep-1932Gehrig had already played 4 innings of that game, the 1,189th of his streak. Five others pinch-hit for Lou before the streak was over: Aaron Ward, Fred Merkle, Myril Hoag, Ernie Johnson and Ben Paschal.
