Tony Korey passed away. Legendary youth worker, Camp SPdL counselor. Wrote two novels. Did great works. Funeral Thursday in Kennesaw.
Thursday night the senior adults at JFBC are putting on an axe throwing event (sign the Waiver here). No idea why I receive senior adult emails, by the way.
I always liked the movie The American President, with Michael Douglass and Annette Benning. In the movie President Shepherd doesn’t want to respond to opponents criticizing him for dating a lobbyist who once took part years ago in a protest where an American flag was burned. Speechwriter Michael J Fox pointed out that the public was only hearing one side of the story.
On social media I do hear people I know speaking out about the events of the day, taking one side or the other. For sure I am not going to express any views on social media. It would be a waste of time. It is obvious some people tune out voices that disagree with their own. Guy I know in the ministry will belittle anyone who dares to disagree with him, right there on social media for all to see. I do like to type out my thoughts.
Biden and Trump discussed dialing back the vindictive rhetoric, then Biden continued to call Trump "a threat to democracy". Can anyone say exactly how he is such a threat? Instead of specifics, all we hear is verbal attacks. If Trump is such a threat to democracy, why was his first term only marked by economic prosperity, global peace, a downturn in illegal immigration, and low inflation?
Today Biden called Trump a liar, then claimed inflation was 9% when he took office (in fact it was less than 2%). When ex-Marine veteran JD Vance was introduced as Trump's running mate, Biden and the liberal media went on attack mode - but again no specifics, just hate speech. What do Democrats hate about Vance? Coming from a broken, single-parent family? His poor roots? His military record? His liberal, Ivy League education? His career as a businessman? A debate between the vice presidential candidates will be must see TV.
Denison on the assassination attempt: in a nationwide poll conducted last month, 10% said the “use of force is justified to prevent Donald Trump from becoming president.” A third of those giving that answer also said they owned a gun. Words provoke actions. Scripture warns “Do not speak evil against one another” (James 4:11), and commands us “to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people” (Titus 3:2). “It’s nothing short of miraculous” (denisonforum.org)
Article: questions about the shooting that need to be answered. Did you see the video of the shooter on the rooftop? Dozens of spectators were pointing out the shooter as he crawled on the roof. Authorities were alerted TWENTY SIX MINUTES before shots were fired.
Back at work today. Started the day with 82 emails to go through. Last week I only checked emails to delete the easy emails not applicable to me. Got it down to 26 emails by the end of the day.
The FORD Method for making small talk: ask about family, occupation, recreation, and dreams. But be sure to share a little – just don’t interrogate the other person. Hit a balance and let the person talk. For sure don’t dominate the conversation.
PEE WEE REESE [SABR Bio] played in every New York Yankees / Brooklyn Dodgers World Series game. The only postseason opponent he ever played against was the New York Yankees. He played in 7 Series, 44 WS games, had 46 WS hits, and won one 1 ring, in 1955. The years: 1941 - 1947 - 1949 - 1952 - 1953 - 1955 - 1956 - Reese played under Bill Dickey with Phil Rizzuto. All 3 men played on the US Navy's WWII team. Reese was the only batter to take Don Larsen to a three-ball count during Larsen’s perfect World Series game. Reese was the second batter of the game on 08-Oct-1956. The count was full before Reese watched strike three go by.
