Fans and sports talk always talking up the negatives, and rarely the positives. Gonna be awhile before we see Soroka, but last year the Braves were a game away from the World Series without him. And they’ve added Ian Anderson and Charlie Morton and Ynoa to go with Fried. Bryce Wilson has been an effective starter. Newcomb is back, and they just re-signed Greene. That replaces two ineffective relievers. Freeman isn’t going to hit .200 the rest of the way. The lineup will heat up. They already lead the majors in home runs. Acuna, Freeman, Ozuna, Albies, Riley, and Swanson are a formattable top six. Pache is getting needed experience. His backup ain’t bad, old what’s his name. D’Arnault will return for the stretch run. Contreras might not give up the catcher spot. No one ever won a pennant in April or May.
And there's always help over at Gwinnett. Drew Waters is hot. Ender is warming up. Then there's this guy. Nice stirrups, but they look better with dark shoes.
A few players are swinging 3-0 these days. Same with swapping out pitchers. What I hate is the swinging for the fences, and all the strikeouts. I love line drive hitters, but they are few and far between these days.
GEORGE CASTER [SABR Bio] surrendered Jimmie Foxx’s 500th career home run, on 24-Sep-1940(1) The year he led the majors in pitching losses, he had the top WAR on his team. Had 20 losses in 1938 (tied w/Hugh Mulcahy of cross-town PHI,) and led PHA with a 5.0 WAR. Although Caster couldn’t keep up with Mulcahy’s majors-leading 22 losses in 1940, he did manage to “pace” the AL that season with his 19 defeats. Caster performed so well one season with the Portland Beavers that he was featured in a front-page article of The Sporting News. Article graced the cover of the December 3, 1936 issue of TSN. Caster had 25 wins and an ERA of 2.79 that season. He credited most of his success to his improved mastery of the knuckleball.
Wednesday: second straight day working from before 8 am past 6 pm. We had Dreamland BBQ brought in for lunch. For supper C cooked baked chicken, small potatoes, and tossed salad. Watched some Seinfeld, one of the Poppy episodes.
Working from home today to save on gas. Ceil’s last day of school. Made myself a BBQ chicken quesadilla for lunch. Supper? BBQ chicken, mashed potatoes, and tossed salad.

From the ENT Institute: if you are speaking to someone who you know has trouble hearing, try to slow the rate of speech slightly and allow for pauses. Yelling is not needed. Raising your voice can cause embarrassment for the person you're speaking to and can actually create more difficulty understanding. Slowing the rate of speech can go a long way.
