Pro Bowl but not All Pro

Herschel made the Pro Bowl in 1987 and 88. He was not voted All Pro either year. In 87 Walker gained more yards rushing and receiving than Al Pro backs Eric Dickerson and Charles White, and fumbled less. In 88 Walker finished in almost a dead heat with Dickerson and Roger Craig. In 87 Walker’s superior receiving season was not rewarded, but the next year Craig’s fewer rushing yards but slightly better receiving season edged Walker.

In 1990 Herschel led the NFL with 2051 all-purpose yards, thanks to his 966 yards returning kicks. That year Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders took the All Pro honors, but with fewer overall yards. Such allocades are what help a player get voted into the dubiously named Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Baseball. Sometimes a team will play perfectly and win. Sometimes they’ll play great and still lose. Sometimes they’ll play poorly and lose. Sometimes they’ll play poorly and win. Every game is different. Hard to get 25 players to all play perfectly. Every team will lose at least 60 games. The Braves lost three straight, then won three straight. They were 3-1 in the four games before that. Still only 1-1/2 back, tied with Philly for the best record over the past ten games in their division.

The AAA Stripers have started their 2021 season after not playing last year. Camargo win a home run. Newcomb got the save. Leadoff hitter Drew Waters is hot, stealing bases and scoring runs. Tyler Flowers had been working in the Braves analytics department, but the Braves re-signed him to catch. He’ll have to get a new number, since Pache took his #25.

Did you see the recent Hawks game when Trae Young passed ahead to a teammate who stumbled, fell, and then got hit in the head with the ball?

Cool story about the time Vince Lombardi traded all-pro center Jim Ringo, instead of negotiating with his agent. Different times back then.

PAUL MOLITOR [SABR Bio] was the MVP of the 1993 World Series where Joe Carter hit the home run of a lifetime. Molitor was the 6th G’s winning run. He was on first when Carter homered. He set the record by getting five hits in a single World Series game, in 1982 WS, G 1, with MIL. Since tied by Albert Pujols. After playing for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, he was assigned to the A level Burlington Bees of the Midwest League. His final two minor-league games of his professional career were for the AAA Salt Lake City Buzz (Formerly the Bees) in the Pacific Coast League. Molitor played two rehab games for the Buzz on July 13 & 14, 1998, getting 5 hits in 10 ABs before returning to The Bigs.

Rough Thursday. Worked from before 8 am past 5:30. Didn’t feel like stopping anywhere on the way home. Ceil had a rough day as well. She decided to cook pancakes and scrambled eggs for supper. Watched Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. We both went to bed around 9:30.

Oswald Chambers "Every element of self-reliance must be slain by the power of God. Complete weakness and dependence will always be the occasion for the Spirit of God to manifest his power."
