Life in the Fast Food Lane

Today at lunchtime…

1. Called in a pick-up order to Jimmy Johns. Got there and had to wait 15 minutes. There was only one guy who had showed up for work.

2. Got an email from Arbys with a QR code for a classic roast beef sandwich for a dollar. I went to Arby’s and they said they didn’t have a scanner to read the coupon.

3. Went to Checkers to get a cheesecake sundae. Their ice cream machine was broken.

4. Had a coupon for an Aunt Annie’s Pretzel, but their app wouldn’t work.

The first-place Braves swept Nats in DC. Some are joining the bandwagon, some say no big deal. Braves have won 8 of their last ten. They claimed first place earlier than they did last year. They could have all four infielders hit 30 home runs. All this without Acuna, Ozuna, and Soroka.

Keeping up with your reading? I just started “The President’s Daughter” by Bill Clinton & James Patterson. Middle Eastern terrorists retaliate by kidnapping the ex-President’s daughter, a Dartmouth student. Pretty good so far.

On the way home Friday I stopped off to practice putting.

Saturday morning golf. As usual, I hit some good shorts and some bad. Forgot to start my watch until the second hole. Here’s the good:

1. Decent drive, nice 9 wood to green, good lag putt inside one foot.

2. Nice 7 iron approach over green. Good chip. Good lag putt to a few inches.

3. Nice 9 wood off tee over flag to fringe, good lag putt inside one foot.

4. Decent drive off tee. Nice chip onto green. Good lag putt.

5. Nice 5 wood off tee. Nice chip onto green. Good lag putt to one foot.

6. Two decent drivers off tee. Okay 9 wood approach. Nice chip inside 5 feet.

7. Good straight driver off tee, carried three quarters of the way up the hill. Good 7 iron approach (hit tree). Good 9 iron to fringe.

8. Good driver off tee. Good 9 wood approach. Nice chip. Good lag putt.

9. Good 5 wood off tee. Two decent chips. Okay lag putt.

Saturday afternoon I mowed the lawn. Got in over 13,000 steps for the day. Lettuce wraps for supper. Rested on Sunday.

Sunday School: 39 in attendance, including several new people. Baptisms during the service, including Graham Smith, my daughter-in-law’s sister-in-law’s brother. Got to see the whole Smith family afterwards, including Thomas & Holly.

Anna went to the Atlanta United game Sunday afternoon, with three friends.

I rarely read Peter King’s Monday Morning QB column, but today it’s pretty good. The story of Colts later round draftee Sam Ehlinger (#4), whose brother and best friend died unexpectantly. Head coach Frank Reich called Sam his “brother in Christ.” About his eulogy Sam said “I wanted them to…giving them hope in eternity…Jesus Christ sacrificing His life for us.”

Buffalo Bills’ head coach Sean McDermott on Jake Fromm: ‘He doesn’t seem to be fazed’ Fromm led the team’s game-winning drive on Friday night. Lots of QB’s in the news: Trevor Lawrence, Jacoby Brissett, Tua, Jacob Eason vs. Sam Ehlinger, Nick Foles, Justin Fields.

At Shea Stadium on 11-Sep-1966, PAT JARVIS  [SABR Bio] was the first MLB batter Nolan Ryan ever faced. Jarvis struck out, becoming the first of Ryan’s career 5,714 Ks. Four seasons later Jarvis surrendered Ernie Banks’500th home run, on 12-May-1970. After retiring from baseball, Jarvis served in several government positions in the state of Georgia, including Sheriff of Dekalb County. In 1999 he was convicted of fraud and served 15 months in federal prison.
