Uni Watch sells “I’m Still Calling It…” shirts, harkening back to old stadium names. They’re dancing in the streets now that Cleveland is dropping Indians as a name. Here’s an interesting article on the name change. Odd that the Indians made the announcement during the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics. The article expresses disgust that the Braves haven’t yet changed their name, linking to an old article claiming “hundreds” were calling for a change.

Johnny Tallant, the big old coach who hosts Hot Stove in his basement north of Cumming, also told of taking the bus from downtown Cumming down to the old Sears building for enlistment. He wrangled his way out of it somehow, perhaps for being overweight. I think he said on his way home he stopped and ordered two milkshakes.

Wednesday: slept until almost 7 am. Barely made it to work by 8 am. Was worn out from the driving range. Grabbed a BBQ burger for lunch from Bad Baddy’s Burger Bar in Chamblee. Also sweet potato fries. Very good. Burger was almost too big. Bun was tasty and just the right size.

The speech I had to give Thursday went well. Was worried most about my delivery. Found out later someone filmed it, and they’re sending me a copy. Improvised a little, as I was the third person to speak.

Anna always wants to eat burgers. Know anyone like that?

New dishwasher arrived, but it was too complicated for the deliveryman to install. So we gotta bring in a plumber.

Denison: optimism is down nearly 20% since May. A majority—55%—of the public now say they are pessimistic about the direction of the country, a marked change from the 36% who said the same in a May 2 poll. This at a time of skyrocketing gun violence. Between July 17 and July 23, the Gun Violence Archive tracked at least 915 shooting incidents, which averages to one every twelve minutes. At least 430 people were killed and 1,007 wounded. US population growth has ground to a halt due to the pandemic and a decade-long decline in birth rate. Oswald Chambers noted that the Sermon on the Mount “is not a set of rules and regulations: it is a statement of the life we will live when the Holy Spirit is getting his way with us."

Griffey finished in the top five of MVP voting both years. In 1997 he was unanimously voted AL MVPIn 1998, he tied for 4th in the voting. Griffey is the only player to hit his 400th career home run playing for the Cincinnati Reds, in a CIN loss to COL 10-Apr-2000 off Rolando Arrojo.

McCovey played for three major league teams in the same state in one decade:: SFG 1970-73 & 77-80, SDP 1974-76 & OAK in 1976.
