Ant Man and the Wa...Not So Fast

Last night in the middle of the night I was walking back to bed in the dark. Stepped on something that kinda hurt. Almost felt like broken glass. Later I got up and put calamine lotion on my foot. This morning when I woke up my foot was swollen. I turned on the light and looked for what I’d stepped on: a wasp! Luckily it didn’t get a good sting on me.

Today I am wearing some stretchy sneakers and will try to stay off my feet. I did go to the gym this morning to lift weights.

Tuesday: worked past 5:30. Stopped by Goodwill on the way home. Watched more of the Netflix golf show. Tony Finau and a few other names you might recognize.

Later this spring Will and Matthew will be playing golf. I needed to stock M’s bag with balls, so last night I finally sorted out all the balls Id recently bought. These included 19 Titleists, ten Callaways, five Nikes, and two Bridgestones. Also several yellow Nike practice balls from the first batch I’d bought (not included in the count below). In the future hopefully I can be more selective about which brand of balls I buy.

For the second straight year, the national champion Georgia Bulldogs will not be invited to the White House. Dang that covid.

The AD at the University of Texas has decreed the Longhorns will not be wearing alternate uniforms under his watch. Good for him. He also said Longhorn fields would be converted to grass “sooner than later” and asked the SEC to permit the Oklahoma game to continue on in the Cotton Bowl during the state fair. My kind of AD. And who started calling football uniforms “kits”?

Get Rid Of Fruit Flies: take a plastic water bottle, preferably from a brand with a weaker plastic. Cut off the top and invert it so that it forms a funnel going into the bottle. Make a slurry of warm water, juice, and fruits to leave at the bottom of the water bottle. Add a drop of dish detergent, put the funnel on, and tape the seams together.

Scratches on cars: use the NanoSparkle Cloth. It has a secret ingredient: nanoparticles that reactivate the paint on your car. Scratches get filled in with the surrounding paint.

Cloudy headlights: use RestoWipe to make your headlights like new again. It removes the haze on the glass that fragments and dulls your headlights. First I will try my knockoff Mr. Clean Magic Eraser from Dollar Tree.

JOE MAUER [SABR Bio] is the only catcher to win an AL batting title. He won batting titles in three of his first five full years in the majors: 2006 (.347), 2008 (.328) & 2009 (.365). In his senior year in high school, he became the only athlete ever to be selected as the USA Today High School Player of the Year in two sports. USA Today honored Mauer in football in 2000 as a quarterback and baseball in 2001 as a catcher. He was asked to leave his T-ball league at the age of four, because he was hitting the ball too hard.

DENISON: one of the most insightful analysis of the war in Ukraine was written for Foreign Affairs by Sir Lawrence Freedman (DPhil, Oxford University), the Emeritus Professor of War Studies at Kings’ College London. Dr. Freedman notes that Russia and Ukraine have been pursuing two very different war strategies...this fact explains much about the conflict. I was struck by the degree to which it is also relevant to our cultural challenges in America.

In his book In the Eye of the Storm: Jesus Knows How You Feel, Max Lucado writes: “The supreme force in salvation is God’s grace. Not our works, nor our talents, not our feelings, nor our strength. Faith is not born at the negotiating table where we barter our gifts in exchange for God’s goodness. Faith is not an award given to the most learned. It’s not a prize given to the most disciplined.”

From small group Monday night: I John 1: 10: “If we say we have not sinned, we make God a liar, and His Word is not in us”.
