Braves still 1-1/2 games out of first place, after the Mets won five straight to take the lead. Yesterday the Braves signed reliever Shane Greene and another reliever to bolster their bullpen. Newcomb and Soroka and catcher d'Arnault will be back later in the year.
Most players wear their pants either all the way down over their shoes, or way up to their knees. Pache may be the only player in baseball to wear them halfway between (top left). Love it.
Sunday I realized in Dale Murphy's iconic Power Alley poster, he's wearing a road powder blue jersey with Braves on the front. The team never wore such an animal – by then road jerseys had ATLANTA on the front. The Richmond Braves did wear BRAVES on powder blue, but Murphy was MVP by then. My tweet garnered almost 8,000 views, a decent number for me. No thanks to Uni Watch, who doesn't dare utter the B word.
The Braves are giving away free tickets to fans who come to the ballpark to be vaccinated. I've already had both shots, but thought it would be fun to keep getting vaccinated just to take advantage of free ticket deals.
In April Emory Healthcare gave away 1000 Hawks masks & t-shirts. I won a red Hawks mask and red Hawks t-shirt. I also signed up to have a Braves mask sent to me.
Friday's are a little slower at work, and I got a decent amount done. Ceil cooked BBQ chicken breasts, salad, and baked potato doubloons. Watched a good movie: Wild Mountain Thyme, with Christopher Walken, Emily Blunt, and Jon Hamm.
Saturday: worked upstairs. Then a big cleanup downstairs in several rooms. Also laundry and dishes. Mowed the grass, including a good chunk of the woods. Worked almost til dark. Homemade pizza for supper. Watched golf and some of the Braves.
In person Sunday School, with 33 in attendance, plus two more on line. A good time of encouragement and lifting up of burdens. After the service we drove down and picked up lunch at Little Rey, and ate outside at Ansley Mall with Anna.
Little Rey was super crowded, so we ordered to go. Still took 30 min to get our food. I got a chicken parm sub from Vinny's Pizza. Then to a Virginia Highland coffee shop: Perk.
Didn't get home until almost 4 pm. More cleanup. Had the golf tourney on. Then W&MC, Matthew, and Anna came over. They all cooked supper: pad thai chicken and Beetlecat cucumber salad. Pretty good. Lemon squares for dessert. They all stayed until almost 9:30. Took me another hour to finished cleaning up. Was up past midnight.
Today was back busy at work. Small group tonight. Taking off Friday to take C to Chattanooga. Hopefully we'll get the new puppy on Saturday, if the gas crisis ends by then.
Del Crandall passed away last week. He's the fourth Braves Hall of Famer to pass in the last few months, along with Aaron, Niekro, and Sutton.
DEL CRANDALL [SABR Bio] An 11-time All-Star, Crandall was the last living player to appear in a game for the Boston Braves. He attended the same high school as Hall of Famers Walter Johnson and Arky Vaughan. All are alumni of Fullerton Union HS, Fullerton, California. An Ontario, CA native, Crandall caught no-hitters from three different Milwaukee Braves teammates. No-hitters on 12-Jun-1954 by Jim Wilson; on 18-Aug-1960 by Lew Burdette; and on 16-Sep-1960 by Warren Spahn. He was the catcher for all 15⅓ innings of the famous pitching duel on 02-Jul-1963. On that date, starters Juan Marichal & Warren Spahn each went the distance. So did their catchers, Crandall and Ed Bailey. He was a teammate of and a manager of Hank Aaron in the same city. Played with Aaron on MLN 1954-63. Managed Aaron on MIL in 1975. Crandall won every single National League Gold Glove Award for catchers in the 1950s. Rawlings began the awards in 1957 and started naming individual winners for each league the following year. Crandall was honored with the NL GGs in 1958 and 1959. He added two more in 1960 and 1962 After he'd played two months in the majors, his parents flew across the country to see him play, but he was ejected before the first half inning was over. On 27-Aug-1949, Hall of Fame umpire Jocko Conlan tossed Crandall for arguing balls & strikes on the second batter of the game.
Article: US investigators say China has been preparing for WW3 with biological weapons for last six years. Meanwhile the US wants to defund the police and replace them with conflict resolution counselors.
A Harvard study published in Journal of Personality and Social Psychology found that asking a question — then asking two follow up questions about your colleague's response — can make you a more likable conversationalist. It's the "three question rule" to a conversation that makes the other person feel heard, respected and appreciative of your presence. Failing to ask questions at all can make conversationalists seem egotistical and uncharismatic.
