Left at five. Stopped by Kroger for BBQ sauce. Had BBQ chicken breasts and tossed salad.
Watched three above average movies last weekend, one Friday and two Saturday night. Grand Champion was the story of a boy and his prize winning steer. The steer sold at auction (to Julia Roberts and Bruce Willis), but when the boy discovered the steer was to be eaten, he kidnapped the bovine.
Also Front of the Class, the true story of a kid from St Louis with Turret's Syndrome who grew up to be a teacher (and Braves mascot). He moved to Atlanta to apply for jobs, finally landing one in Cobb County, where he still works. Tritt Elementary, quite close to our house. His mom was played by Patricia Heaton, from The Middle and Everyone Loves Raymond.
Saturday: cleaned upstairs. Grits for breakfast. Laundry. Later cut the grass. It rained a little while I was out there, but then then sun came out. The dog we were sitting was picked up. Supper was chicken tenders in a spicy sauce, lima beans, rice, green beans cooked with potatoes.
Sunday School and worship in the sanctuary. We were discussing how God will sometimes send us reminders of how we need to completely rely on Him. If everything was hunky dory all the time we'd soon forget to reply on God. Supposedly Julie Adair was at JFBC with her dad John. Leftovers for lunch and supper.
Watched the end of the British Open. Why do people fall for the marketing and just call it The Open? For 50 years it was the British Open. The winner's secret?
Later W&MC stopped by. Gave Will my Stance Dominique Wilkins socks, since I have so many pairs of Stance socks that I don't wear.
Left work Monday shortly after five. Gassed up at RaceTrac. Arrived at my 6:15 focus group early, tasting cream of chicken soup. Left there around 6:45 and headed to the ballpark. Saw a couple of friends were there, so I invited them down to my seat. No ice cream until first pitch. Then they put the tarp back on the field. I went to the team store, but since the game was postponed I couldn't use the money on the tickets. Got home around 9:15.
ROD CAREW [SABR Bio] is the only batter in either league to have a qualifying season's batting average above .385 between 1958 and 1979. Ted Williams hit 388 in 1958 and George Brett hit .390 in 1980, but the highest average chronologically between those 2 was Carew's .388 in 1977. Carew won AL ROY in 1967. Tom Seaver won NL ROY in 1967. Seaver got his 300th win 04-Aug-1985 in Yankee Stadium. Carew's 3,000th hit was the same day, Anaheim against his former team MIN. Played for MIN 1967-1978; & CAL 1979-1985. Although he was productive with the Angels, regularly finishing in the team's top 5 in WAR, he put up no league-leading numbers during those seven seasons.
