Shivonne almost got to go to Disney World last week, but MC’s work trip didn’t pan out. Shiv travels to Washington at the end of the month.
Baby got new shoes, to match her mamma's. I dunno. Those Nikes look more like kicks a forward or center would wear. Better to go for the shooting guard look.
Frustrating Tuesday. Got some discouraging work news. Worked until almost 6:30. Traffic bad on way home. Had to pick up something at Office Max for C, and I spent an hour in the place. Then to Trader Joes, where I never can find what I need. Didn’t get home until 8;30.
M made taco meat, so I fixed a quesadilla. Watched Young Sheldon. Passed on the State of the Union Address.
Up early for golf this morning with Will. He hit irons most of the time. I was dragging out my woods, trying to get reps with them. W hit two shots most of the time while I stuck to one, since we were sandwiched between two single players. I was a little stiff after my workout yesterday. Teed off about 7:15 am.
1. Hit a decent 3 wood of the senior tee that found the fairway. Flubbed one before hitting a nice hybrid. My 7 iron hit the bank and rolled back, but I hit a good chip and two putted.
2. Hit one into the woods, then hit one straight but short. Nice to have Will to retrieve my balls. I was able to return the favor a few times. I flubbed two chips but my third rolled onto the green. Two putt.
3. Lost one ball that I topped, then hit a decent follow-up. Two bad chips, then a three putt.
4. Decent 3 wood off tee. Flubbed one chip, then knocked it on the green. Long lag putt, then knocked it in. “Double bogey”.
5. Nice 3 wood off tee, straight and long for me. Shot of the day. Long lag putt, then in for par.
6. Sliced two drivers off the tee. Both hit trees and bounced back into the fairway. Hit a great hybrid that the big oak in the middle of the fairway knocked down. Got a good rool from a 5 iron, flubbed a couple, then sliced a 6 iron that rolled onto the green. Three putt.
7. Decent drive, sliced but just off the fairway. First hybrid was struck well but hit a tree. Hit another good hybrid past the top of the plateau. Hit two hybrid shots that weren’t the best, but got good rolls. Flubbed one chip, chipped one off the green, then chipped one on the green. Made a LONG putt. Putt of the year. Made a “bogey”, rare for one of the tougher holes on the course.
8. Like Saturday my drive hit a tree. Sliced a hybrid down the hill, back to the adjoining fairway. Chip wasn’t the best looking, but rolled close to the green. Two putt for another “bogey”.
9. Hit two poor hybrids off the tee to the right, then poked a 5 iron from under a tree across to the left rough. Chipped right, then a good chip onto the green. Great lag putt close on the sloping green. Double bogey.
Finished just after 8:30. Made a few work calls on the drive to the office. Traffic was bad on the way. Even more sore now.
I keep trying to remember that others have it so much worse than me. Not just the Ukrainians and other refugees. The Chinese people. Friends going through dark times. Here I am trying to talk myself out of buying a pair of sneakers I don’t need.
RAY SADECKI [SABR Bio] was a Kansas City native. He won 20 games for a World Series winning team but failed to get a single Cy Young vote. His Hall of Fame teammate did not receive any Cy Young votes that year either. Sadecli the Cardinals in 1964 with 20 wins (Gibson had 19). There was only one Cy Young award in 1964. Dean Chance won it, and the other votes went to Larry Jackson and Sandy Koufax. Sadecki led the majors in losses during the “year of the pitcher”. He lost 18 games for the Giants in 1968.
Denison on the State of the Union Address: “Inflation is at a 40-year high. Gasoline prices are the highest they've been in eight years, with the war possibly driving them even higher. A new poll reported. only 31% of voters are satisfied with the way things are going in the US today. Over half think our country is worse off than it was a year ago; only 35% say the nation is better off. David Axelrod, former senior advisor to Obama, wrote in the New York Times, "The state of the union is stressed." He noted that the vast majority of Americans believe our nation is on the wrong track, with the devastation of the pandemic and the rise of suicides, drug overdose deaths, and violence in our homes and on the streets.
