Interesting that probably on purpose, Bubba Watson’s announcement did not come until after the Masters, an event he loves. On the Sunday before the Masters, Bubba was on hand to help on with the kids Chip, Drive, and Putt finals.
Watch that Hawks game? The announcers seemed disappointed Charlotte didn’t make much of an effort.
Wednesday: worked past 5:30 then got stuck in traffic on the way home. Stopped by RaceTrac. For supper Ceil cooked pork tenderloin, baked some small potato wedges, and tossed a salad. Packaged bobbleheads to ship.
My back is still a little sore. Stayed away from the gym to let it get better. Will go back on Monday. Not sure yet about Saturday AM golf. I am thinking about going to the Gwinnett Stripers game on Saturday night.
Next week all our employees are supposed to be back in the office at least two days per week. In our department almost everyone comes in to the office every day, except my two team members. Sounds like they will only come in the minimum amount.
Trying to nail down plans for a trip to NE North Carolina in early June, to visit with friends.
The AJC.com had an article about homes the Braves live in, but it really didn’t show much. Not many photos or addresses. Imagine that.
German writer Kurt Tucholsky: "A country is not just what it does—it is also what it tolerates."
MAX SCHERZER [B-R Bio] was the sixth pitcher to win the Cy Young Award in each league. Won AL CYA in 2013 with DET; won NL CYA in 2016 & 2017 with WSN. Preceding him with that dual honor were Gaylord Perry, Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens & Roy Halladay. Drafted by STL in the 43rd round of the 2003 MLB June Amateur Draft from Parkway Central HS in Chesterfield, MO.) He chose instead to play for the University of Missouri Tigers and then was taken by ARI in the 1st round (11th overall) of the 2006 MLB June Amateur Draft. Only Sandy Koufax and Tim Lincecum (“The Freak”) have (a) won multiple Cy Young Awards, (b) pitched multiple no-hitters, AND (3) won multiple World Series. Scherzer has won the CYA thrice, pitched two no-hitters, and won the World Series with WSN in 2019 (Justin Verlander is in a similar position of opportunity).
COLE HAMELS [B-R Bio] is the only Philadelphia player to win multiple postseason MVPs in the same postseason: MVP for 2008 NLCS and 2008 World Series. That same season, he led the National League in WHIP, 1.082 in 2008. As a veteran, but looking much younger, he took it upon himself to instruct a younger player (who looked older) in the game’s unwritten rules. Hamels hit Bryce Harper with pitch, in the 8th G of Harper’s career, 06-May-2012. Hamels admitted he did it on purpose, saying after the game, “I was trying to hit him. I wanted to welcome him to the major leagues.” Harper exacted revenge by stealing home before the inning ended, his first career steal.
