What did you think of Max Fried’s performance last night? Seven shutout innings. Faced the minimum for the first five innings. No walks, only two hits allowed. Eight strikeouts accounted for at least 24 of his 93 pitches (62 total strikes – two thirds of his pitches). An average of 13 pitches per inning and 4 pitches per batter.
If you can find fault with that performance, I’m not sure what would be better.
Heard the Dodgers fans booed Kenley Jansen when he entered the game.
Ronald Acuna played his first rehab game for the Stripers, slugging two deep fly balls, one off the wall for a stand up double. Ran down several balls in right field. Fist bumped fans in the middle of plays.
MC’s grandparents get paper copies of the AJC. Like the post office, paper newspapers and magazines will someday be a thing of the past. Like you say for the AJC and USA Today, nowadays rags like Sports Illustrated are a shadow of their former selves. SLAM seems to be going strong.
A very popular account on social media is Super 70s Sports. The guy got so popular that he quit his job and does social media full time. He says “If you’re under 50 and think LeBron James is better than Michael Jordan, you need to educate yourself. If you are over 30 and think LeBron James is better than Michael Jordan, you’re just plain dumb.” MJ probably made his teammates better in practice, though he wasn’t easy on them. I think players like Steve Kerr would say the same thing. Also saw a reminder that MJ won MVP. Averaged 35 PPG, and was named both offensive POY and defensive POY the same season. No one else ever did that.
TOM SEAVER [SABR Bio] had a statue unveiled last week at Citi Field. His bronze and stainless structural steel likeness made its debut on Friday, hours before the Mets’ 2022 opener on 15-Apr-2022. He was the first “Baseball Digest” Player of the Year, in POY 1969. He and Walter Johnson are the only major league pitchers with 300 wins, 3,000 strikeouts and a sub-3.00 ERA. Stats for Johnson & Seaver.
Saturday night Ceil ordered something on Amazon after I had gone to bed. Sunday morning Ceil was out walking the dog before we went to church. The Amazon truck pulled up to deliver the order. Ceil asked if they wanted to go to church, but of course they were working.
Sunday night I went upstairs to go to bed. Out the window in the dark I noticed a car pass by on the road, but it barely slowed and pulled down our driveway, so far down I couldn’t see the car. Thought it might be UberEats for Matthew, but he wasn’t expecting anything. I went downstairs and opening the door to go into the garage, where I saw the deliveryman taking boxes to the front door. I opened the door and asked to make sure the delivery was for us. It wasn’t. It was medical supplies for street number 2110 – the very first house on the street (we are 2210). This had happened before.
After work yesterday I went outside and cut the grass. Ceil was at her women’s ministry, and M was out and about. Then I cleared off the driveway. Finished and went inside to find that Winnie had eaten almost an entire 10 ounce container of chocolate covered almonds. Not good. Forced her to swallow hydrogen peroxide, but she didn’t throw up. Looked up the symptoms, but she didn’t really have many. Before bed she was a little jumpy, but seemed to have a restful night. Every now and then Winnie gets the hiccups. Early this morning every few minutes she had what could be interpreted as tiny seizures, but the critical period has supposedly passed. M kept an eye on her today.
Lifted weights at the gym this morning. Trying to wear a different pair of sneakers every day (except when I run). Today's were the colorful Puma LQDCell's.
DENISON: at the beginning of the pandemic 69% of Americans believed what they heard from the CDC; earlier this year, the number had fallen to 44%. Also (1) only 40% say they trust the federal government to do what is right, (2) only 38% consider its impact on the US to be positive, (3) only 23% believe the federal government is transparent, and (4) only 27% say the government listens to the public.
