Saturday morning I cleaned upstairs. Thought it was going to rain in the afternoon, so then I cut the grass. Then Ceil went out to get stuff for our family dinner. W&MC were able to host. I had to go pick up teriyaki chicken from Fuji Hanna in East Cobb, the first time we’d eaten there. Ceil also fixed over stuff for our bowls.
Made it to W&MC’s by seven. A fun dinner for all seven of us. Matthew made a gluten free birthday cake for MC – chocolate with flakes of coffee. More substantial than a regular cake, so I liked it even better.
Winnie had a big time playing with Okie. Okie did a great job of putting up with the little pest Winnie, only snapping back at Winnie once. At one point the two dogs squared off against each other. Winnie would bark at Okie, who was holding a toy in his mouth. Winnie would bark, then Okie would act like he was going to charge. Then Winnie would yelp, and turn tail and run for cover. She had the best time.
Sunday School at JFBC, then back home to watch worship. Fixed quesadillas for lunch. Watched the Memorial, with the sounds of the cicadas filling the air. Seemed like they had quieted down by the time they reached the playoff. Me and Winnie drove Ceil around on several errands: PetSmart, Whole Foods, and Home Depot. Watched a Hallmark movie we had seen before.
This morning C left for three days at the lake with her girlfriends. Right when she left I had a video conference call, and Winnie was going crazy. I put her in her crate, but then she got her mouth stuck in the bars, She started to yelp, and I had to go get her unstuck. She finally went to sleep under my table, and took a long nap.
Braves took two of three from the mighty Dodgers, beating their two best pitchers without 4 or 5 of our best players. Beat writer Dave O’Brien finally had enough with the always negative Braves fans on social media, calling them out. Good for him. Friday night Anna and Caleb went to the game with other High Country employees.
The MLB collective bargaining agreement limits the Braves options for dealing with Marcell Ozuna. They’ll probably have to pay his salary even though he won’t be playing.
'Jeopardy!' two-time champion Julia Markham Cameron created quite a stir. She lost tonight.
Memorial golf tournament: cicadas swarming. I missed a great opportunity for a joke on social media. I'm sure there were thousands of jokes I'm glad I missed.
JASON KENDALL [SABR Bio] was the first Pirates rookie to be named to the NL All-Star team, in the 1996 ASG, backing up Mike Piazza. Entered the game on defense in the bottom of the ninth. In the minors, he was the voted the league’s Most Valuable Player, of the AA Southern League, playing for the Carolina Mudcats in 1995. His dad was something of a major league rarity. Fred Kendall, caught for the Padres for 10 seasons. Jason once had a game with five hit in five at-bats, including two doubles, without scoring a run or batting in a teammate, on 03-May-1999
Shoes of the day: wore my navy crocs all day.
