Reasons to avoid travel ball, written by a former ballplayer / husband / father. Always interesting to read the comments – most agree though some dads wouldn't be swayed. So much of life is missed when kids are chained to one activity all year, year after year.
Will played rec ball until he aged out. He loved it. Will enjoyed travel ball, but wouldn't have missed it had he not played. The rest of the family definitely suffered, with repercussions lasting years later.
1. Kids should play, not work.
2. Your kid isn't going pro (& that's a good thing)
3. If your kid does go pro, rec ball is the likelier path
4. Your family doesn't need travel ball
5. Your wallet will thank you
6. You should be in church
7. Better to play more than one sport
8. Don't dilute the rec league talent pool
9. Don't cause the rec league to dry up
10. Don't get seduced: "low key" travel ball doesn't work
In 1958 Yankee Stadium didn't look so hallowed from this angle.TY COBB [SABR Bio] debuted in centerfield at the age of 18, three weeks after his mother killed his father. On 08-Aug-1905, Cobb's mother fatally shot his father with a pistol that his father had purchased for her. The jury thought she was within her rights thinking it was a prowler. In that debut performance he doubled in his first at bat against another future Hall of Famer. Three weeks later, Cobb debuted in CF for DET. On 30-Aug-1905, in his first major league at bat, he doubled off Jack Chesbro of NYY. As a manager, he led his team to five consecutive winning seasons. As Player-Manager for Detroit, 1922 (79-75); 1923 (83-71); 1924 (86-68); 1925 (81-73); 1926 (79-75)
Denison: when a Christian sins, others want to blame God. Surely God would know that his so-called servants are harming others, and would do whatever necessary to stop them and to protect their victims. And yet God did not do so. But God honors the free will he gives us. Every sin is a violation of God's word and will. Every person harmed by someone else experiences the consequences of misused freedom. When we reject God's plan for us, the results are not God's fault but our own.
While this explains the guilty sinner, it does not account for the innocent victim. The innocent did not deserve what they experienced. It would be understandable to blame God for allowing this pain. Our secular culture is only too ready to help do so. One of the reasons allegations against Christian leaders are so damaging is that they give religious skeptics ammunition for their ever escalating claims that religion is dangerous. They judge the perfect Christ by the actions of imperfect Christians, and are ready to condemn both.
