A Talking Chop reporter was asking for suggestions for the ten greatest home runs in Atlanta Braves history. Several recent homers were suggested, but many of my ten weren’t suggested as often.
2. Justice’s homer in game 6 of the 1995 World Series
3. Soler’s moonshot in the 2021 World Series.
4. Tony Cloninger’s 2 grand slams in one game, 1966.
5. Bob Horner’s four HR game
6. Andruw’s 2 HR in WS as an 19 year-old rookie, breaking Mickey Mantle’s record.
7. Rick Camp’s extra-inning HR on July 4th
8. Chipper’s last HR, a walkoff.
9. Aaron’s 714th
10. Heyward’s opening day HR in his first at bat.
HM: Brooks Conrad’s walkoff grand slam
A basketball coach in Connecticut was suspended after his team beat an opponent 92-4. Some thought this was wrong to suspend the coach. They obviously didn’t read the article, and either don’t know much about sports, have no sense of decency, or little common sense. It’s what’s so intriguing about social media: to see how people are really like.
Why was the coach suspended? For pressing and fast-breaking the entire game, playing man to man defense for three quarters, for showing no mercy. Score by quarter: 29-0 56-0 80-0.
It was obvious the Sacred Heart coach was trying to score 100 points while shutting out the opponent. Not a good lesson for his two daughters who play on the team. Sacred Heart Academy is a small private all-girls Catholic school. Not sure if their 0-4 opponent was missing players from covid, but they went into the game having been out-scored by more than 23 points per game. The Sacred Heart coach saw blood in the water.
The coach didn’t have to tell his players not to play hard, but he didn’t have to press and fast break the entire game. He could’ve used the game as a chance to play younger less-experienced players. When Will’s high school coach was faced with the same situation, that’s what he did. Created much more team chemistry than any crushing defeat could have, for the players and people in the stands.
Denison: Harvard’s “Study of Adult Development” followed 700 men for more than 80 years and found this: Good relationships keep us happier and healthier. Period.” They clarified, “It’s the quality of your close relationships that matters. Not the quantity.” According to a report published last month in the Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, “Anxiety or a lack of certainty about one’s relationship with the divine represents a threat to psychological well-being.”
FRANK ROBINSON [SABR Bio] is the only triple crown winner to never lead the league in BA, HR or RBI any other year. TC in 1966. He led in slugging percentage and OPS four times each and led MLB twice. He was on base for the only triple play of Denny McLain’s thirty-win season, on 01-Sep-1968. Robinson was on first for a 1-6-3 TP, McLain’s only one in his career. Robinson is the only player with a statue outside major league stadiums in three cities he played in: Cincinnati, Baltimore, Cleveland. Henry Aaron has statues outside three major league stadiums, but all in Atlanta. Click here for the list.
