Emperor’s New Clothes: Part Duh

It's that time of year again: Georgia Tech's annual uniform change. When adidas took over as uniform supplier, they vowed to standardize the gold. Now the pants gold is different from the pants stripe gold, which is different from the helmet, jersey stripe, and jersey number. At least its more traditional. Ish.

We'll see if the gold numbers can be seen on TV, or from the stands. I'm sure they'll continue to mix and match every week – "Gold". White. Blue. Helmet. Jersey. Pants. Not sure it will help them against Clemson come Labor Day.

Speaking of Clemson, looks like they're adding lots of purple accessories to their orange and white home uniforms: gloves, sleeves, socks, shoes. Takes a great look and makes it lots worse.

Watched some of the lead up to the Home Run Derby, but even that went on and on. Ronald Acuna was almost roasted alive during the introductions. No ball was struck until 8:25. We flipped the TV to watch episode 6 of Extraordinary Attorney Woo. An hour and 15 minutes later and the Derby was only half over. More standing around than slugging. Lots of loud music being pumped in to generate excitement. Back in the day with Aaron and Mays and Mantle, and even Jordan and bird and Magic you didn't need the loud music. The event, the players were the big deal.

Heard that actor Brian Cranston got thrown out of the Celebrity Game earlier this afternoon, but they didn't rebroadcast the game on my TV. The Dodger Stadium stands were only half full when the Home Run Derby began. Sure it was only 5 pm in LA, but if that had happened in Atlanta the press would've been all over it. Had the home run derby been in Atlanta on a Monday afternoon, Truist Park would've standing room only.

Not sure if Anna has returned to the office, which is over near the other Taqueria in Westside Provisions. She does like Cheshire Bridge the best. When she's not cooking herself.

Not much news. Busy Monday. Worked through lunch and stayed until six, but spent almost all my time helping purchasing and other locations. Got hardly any of my own work done, which is a continuing frustration. Ceil cooked black beans and special rice. M ate with us. Today he starts his new job at Monday Night Garage, a brewery in West End.

MIKE SCHMIDT  [SABR Bio] is the only third baseman to win league MVP again after winning it unanimously in a previous season. He won NL MVP again in 1981 after having won it the first time in 1980. The 1981 vote was just three shy of being unanimous as well, a double feat never yet accomplished. He once homered off brothers in the same game. On 17-Apr-1976, Schmidt went deep off Rick Reuschel in the 5th and 7th innings, then off Paul Reuschel in the 10th. Schmidt is the only 20th-century NL player to hit four home runs in a game in consecutive at-bats. On 17-Apr-1976, he homered in the 5th, 7th, 8th, and 10th innings. NL'ers Bobby Lowe and Scooter Gennett did it in the 19th and 21st centuries respectively.

DENISON: due to the pandemic, single, non-religious young adults are reporting the highest levels of unhappiness since 1972. A researcher explains, "American young adults have begun to take an extraordinarily dim view of the world and their own lives." Among people who attend religious services at least two times a month, unhappiness during the pandemic rose only 4%; for those who attend religious services less frequently, unhappiness rose 15%.
